Released In: 1992 Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, Bowser, Yoshi, Koopa Troopa, and Donkey Kong Jr. race against each other for dominance in Nintendo's famous kart racing game. Syd Lexia: Honestly, I wasn't a fan of this game back in 1992 and I'm not now either. The courses look ugly and you can barely see two feet in front of you due to all that blurry Mode 7 bullshit. Also, the course designs are pretty pedestrian. If you don't believe me, try playing the redrawn versions of the SNES courses in Mario Kart DS; now that you can actually see what you're doing, they're easy as fucking hell. For me, the series didn't really start until Mario Kart 64. Now that was a real game. Valdronius: What can be said about this game that hasn't been said before? It was hours and hours of fun. And if you somehow managed to get bored of the races, time trials, and kicking the crap out of your friends, you could always invent your own variant. My friend and I would enter a battle stage, fire off as many green shells as the game could support, and then pick up another green shell each and then play shell hunters, trying to be the first to kill one. First person to three points wins. Of course, you'd have to restock the playing field after each round, and there always the chance that when you fired off your shell, it would erase the one you were targetting. Good times. Murdar Machene: I love the battle mode in this game. Getting the ghost and stealing someone's red shell, then raping them while invisible is so fucking cheap that you can't not love doing it.Douche McCallister: Mario jumps into the racing genre, creating one of the most fun and successful games of all time. This is definitely on of my top five Super Nintendo games, and for good reason: it had Koopa Troopa in it. He was by far the best racer and if you don’t agree, kiss my ass. Remember the Vanilla Lake trick? Just drown yourself and the game will move you ahead a lap. Do it again and you'll finish the race in 30 seconds flat. Oh yeah, and Rainbow Road gave me nightmares. |
