Released In: 1993 Play as Luke, Han, and Chewie and battle your way through Hoth, Dagobah, and the Cloud City. Along the way you'll meet Yoda and Lando Calrissian and do battle with Boba Fett and Darth Vader. It's good times. Syd Lexia: I get to beat the shit out of Boba Fett AND Darth Vader!? Where do I sign up? The only bad thing about this game is that Chewbacca levels are kind of boring. Fett battle aside, of course. greeneyedzeke: It’s the best Star Wars movie and it’s the best of the Super NES platformers. The Empire Strikes Back is bigger, harder, and better looking than its predecessor and a more satisfying overall experience than its sequel. And the game knows how to inspire you to keep playing. When you run out of lives you’re brought to a continue screen featuring a picture of Yoda on Dagobah. Choose to keep going and he sagely advises, “Do or do not. There is no try.” Opt to stop playing and he gets pissed at you: “That is why you fail.” Like, seriously, not only do I have to wallow in the miserable knowledge that I suck at the game, but Yoda himself is calling me a failure? That’s fucking brutal. Valdronius: While the N64's Shadows of the Empire would do it way better, the battle on Hoth in this game is pretty darn fun. You still get to take down AT-AT's with your cable, it just doesn't look as nice. I think my biggest gripe about this game, aside from it not being as fun as Super Star Wars, is that they took away Luke's blaster. Being able to switch between a powerful melee weapon and a ranged weapon is what made Luke unstoppable. Another change I didn't like was replacing the high jump with a sketchy double jump. OK, so I guess I have multiple gripes about this game. Wait until we get to Super Star Wars, then I'll have nice things to say. |
