Released In: 1994 Demon's Crest is the third installment of Capcom's Gargoyle's Quest series and you once again play as the noble demon Firebrand. Six mysterious crests have fallen from the sky, and the demons of the world have become obsessed with obtaining them, thus causing a terrible civil war to break out. Firebrand had managed to obtain five of the crests - Fire, Water, Earth, Air, and Time - and discovered the location of the sixth one, the Crest of Heaven. Shortly after defeating the Dragon Demon who possessed the final crest, Firebrand was attacked by the demon Phalanx and the crests were taken from him. To restore peace to his world, Firebrand must regain control of the crests and defeat all the power-hungry demons that stand in his way. Syd Lexia: This game sold very poorly when it first came out. So poorly, in fact, that it was one of the biggest financial flops of its time. But as anyone with even half a brain knows, poor sales do not make a poor game; Dragon Warrior III was one of the greatest games of its era and it didn't sell very well in the American market either. Indeed, Demon's Crest is not a bad game. It is a very cool platformer with some RPG elements in it, not unlike Zelda II or Castlevania II. Demon's Crest is a vastly underrated game, and one of the few hidden gems of the Super Nintendo. Valdronius: Even after watching the opening story, I'm still not quite sure what's going on. I assume that the Red Demon who killed everyone to get the crests is me, but I don't understand why I start off breaking out of a coliseum after defeating a very wimpy dragon. Oh well, you get to fly and breath fire. I guess that's the main point here. |
