Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
#55: Battletoads in Battlemaniacs

Released In: 1993
Developer: Rare
Publisher: Tradewest

The Psicone company invites the Battletoads to Tibet to witness the unveiling of their new virtual reality machine, the Gamescape. But when the machine is turned on, a Psyko Pig jumps out and drags the daughter of the Psicone CEO and Battletoad Zitz into the game world. To make matters worse, the virtual world spills out of the portal and begins consuming the real world. It's up to Rash and Pimple to enter the Gamescape machine, rescue their friends, and stop Silas Volkmire and the Dark Queen from remaking reality and taking over the world.

Syd Lexia: There's only six levels, and four of them are racing or obstacle course levels. But it's still Battletoads and it's still very fun. It's just not as fun as the original game.

Valdronius: Back in the SNES days, taking something that was great and making it look prettier without changing too much was acceptable. Battlemaniacs kept the sidescrolling beat 'em up feel of the original game and threw the hover bikes back in for posterity, but also added a few new elements like the bonus levels. Good times.
