Okay. This has been bugging me ever since I started coming here. But after spending 5 minutes searching for a particular article, it needs to be said.

Syd, your archival system sucks.

It's...well, I could go on for 3 paragraphs about WHY it sucks, but I'll shorten it up: It looks amateurish, it makes it very hard to find a specific article, it takes a long time to load the pages, there's no real way of knowing which page you're on anyways, and it completely fucking overwhelms people who want to look through your old stuff.

The format looks good for recent stuff, but for your older stuff, you should just have a single page with links, organized by whatever system seems good to you. Get GP to do it or something. But the way you have it now...a serious turn-off for new visitors.

And if your site keeps being written on bathroom chalkboards and all over small Canadian towns, you'll want to try and keep them here to read your stuff.

I agree with usa here. Try making a search bar or something.

Can you be more specific as to what you mean? I've been using the exact same format since Day 1.

The format is fine, for your front page, The problem is that when the front page gets too full, you just make another one. It makes navigating the site frustrating.

Instead of having 5 (soon 6) pages completely unorganized except by the order in which you made the articles, you should organize your old articles so they're easier to find.

It wouldn't take a whole lot of work. While it's not what I would do, here is probably the easiest way to do it: Simply create a new page that lists (and possibly creates links to) what article is on what page. Call it the "archive" page. Link it from the front page. Bam. Can't be that hard...I know I can do it. Hell, if you want, I -can- do it, or at least try.

Also, I say limit the front page to 4 or 5 articles. When you add a new one, shunt an older one off to an archive page. This gives you a front page with the most recent stuff that's not too big.

GP could just write a PHP page that automatically creates a chronological or alphabetical index of all articles. I think that's what he did for Jeebus' blog, so he can even reuse some of his code. Should be easy for him.

Ah, I thought you were saying older articles were badly formatted.

Nope. Your format works fine. It's just damn near impossible to find anything.

(I was looking for the Taito article, by the way).

You know, I have to agree about the archives. When I need to find an old article quickly, I use Google. Embarrassed

In fact last week, I did "sydlexia taito" to find that one.

Um... I did what?

That shit isn't automated.

I set him up with a header and footer so Syd would stop yelling at him about his navigation menu.

----------

As for a better archival system...

I know that Syd will disagree with me so I'm sorry for saying it in advance.

I think that the articles should be a part of the News Site wordpress system.

They would be searchable, indexable, RSS able...

If you're joking, not funny.

If you're serious, let me prepare a list of 94 sentences for you. In a month, I'm gonna want you to recite them from memory, in order.

C'mon, man, Syd himself has trouble finding stuff on his site. Isn't that a hint?

He has to be joking about something like that. Unless he's trying to prove how much of a crazy stalker fan of Syd he is again.

Isn't there more important things to memorize besides the titles and order of the articles Syd has written?

Seems fairly easy to make. Just put a page with links/pictures to the articles.

Green is Valdronius, white is Syd, and Blue is Jeebus. Note that the titles aren't exact when it comes to names (which means that I didn't write :A Review By Valdronius or Syd Lexia on:)

One small detail:

http://www.sydlexia.com/fatalinstinct2.htm FINISH HIM! (Part 2)
http://www.sydlexia.com/pepsifree.htm Syd Lexia and Pepsi Free: There Can Be Only One
http://www.sydlexia.com/fatalinstinct.htm FINISH HIM! (Part 1)

Sorry I couldn't figure out how to merge the text with the links. Anyway, this is how there are 94 articles and not 93. I helped Syd realize this when I noticed the article he explicitly called his 23rd was listed as his 22nd.
