Get MameUI, it's the user-friendly version of MAME: http://mameui.classicgaming.gamespy.com/

I figured out how to use the emulator but every rom I got was incompatible. plus I could not get it to recognize my controller so I gave up. I'll h ave to check your version out.
Btw should I unzip the roms?

the whole ripping on guitar hero is fucking pointless. the point of video games is to play.
why play metal gear when you can join the military. why play racing games when you can go drive outside. why play rpgs when you can get all dressed up and go to gamecons. etc etc. its just a rhythm game with a unique shaped controller with songs people enjoy listening too. quit bitching. why play any video game at all if your gonna use that " the real thing" is better argument. why do you guys think that everyone who picks up a guitar hero game is ignoring guitar playing. because south park told you that? if i want to learn guitar i will. if i want to bust out rock band with 3 other drunks and see how fucked up we are i will do that too. just shut the fuck up. |
It's not the playing, it's the hardcore practicing. It's fun to play, but when it's all you do is play and play and play, not for fun but to just be better than everyone else and thinking that it means somehtign to be good at guitar hero.
You need to chill out. |
you have to understand, we've had this argument numerous times before.
hell, *I* almost posted a similar pragraph.

And now they're making Guitar Hero: On Tour for the DS, too. I think that's kind of crazy, not to mention impractical to a certain degree. You even have to use a special adapter to be able to play it on the old DS.
And now you're probably wondering why I'm talking about the old DS systems. It's because I still have my Nintendo DS from the Christmas of 2004, which was the first holiday season they were out. But now, Nintendo is catering to the DS lite and not to the old DS systems, which pisses me off to no end sometimes.
I'll get back to the topic now. I like the Guitar Hero games to a certain degree; I enjoy the innovative gameplay as well as the selection of classic rock tunes. However, I also agree that they are starting to pump out too many Guitar Hero titles.

I, too, still have an old school DS. I like it better because GBA games don't stick out of the system the way they do on the DS Lite. When you say it'll need a special adapter, do you mean in addition to the fretboard attachment that comes with the game?

Well, at least I'm not alone on still having the old DS. I like them both the same, but my old DS still works for God's sake. Why buy something I already have?
And yeah, the adapter is probably for the fretboard attachment that comes with the game. I don't think it would even fit without the adapter, let alone work.

I have the old bulky version of the DS, too. 'Cause it still works and it's blue and I've gotten used to it. They only just recently released a blue DS Lite, and by that time I had decided it wasn't worth the trouble/expense to update.

Well, I'll be fair with Nintendo: it is slimmer and it has somewhat better battery life than the classic DS, but those are the only differences. Oh, and the fact that it has more brightness settings.
But I agree with you, it isn't worth the trouble or expenses to upgrade. I think the classic DS is fine.

I don't compare GH to playing a real guitar, if it were to mimick any kind of instrument, I would say the finger movement is more like a piano, and that's why i picked up on the game fairly quickly. The game is great fun if you have friends over and want to kill time, nothing more... everyone can be involved, and a good amount of the songs are fun to listen to. I will not buy the Aerosmith edition because well, I don't like Aerosmith. Also the downloadable songs are bullshit.. they intentionally put in 1 good song of the 3 so you have to spend more to get 2 songs you hate. Fuck that, as much as i want to play mastodon, im not paying for the other 2 craptastic songs... Speaking of dl content, that reminds me i need to get Castlevania SotN today.

I was thinking of the Sega Genesis port, which I remember being pretty crappy, or at least getting crappy reviews on my Sega Genesis website. I never played the arcade version.

Yeah, the Sega and Nintendo versions are terrible. I did a brief graphical comparison when I wrote my Revolution X article: http://www.sydlexia.com/revcomp.htm
The arcade game also relied heavily on Aerosmith music and voice clips, and that didn't translate well to the home versions at all.

Yeah, I agree with you, Sydlexia.
While the arcade version is great, the console ports are horrid.

Now why didn't the folks who make the Guitar Hero games continued developing the fretboard for the classic DS? That would be more practical, since it would fit in both the classic DS and the DS lite.

That seriously isn't a bad thing. I really don't mind a ton of crappy sequels (namely films) as long as they are better than Highlander 3 or (if a game) Angel of Darkness.

Haha wow. I can't believe what I just saw. I'm not sure which part was more ridiculous: yelling "Rock Out" or trying to blow out the imaginary fire...
Also, that pick looks like its going to do some damage to your screen if you're rocking out as hard as those dudes.

Honestly, I think that video was moderately annoying. That guy got on my nerves a little bit after a while.

I wonder if they'll put "One" in it. It's pretty much Metallica's best song ever, but it's already in GH3.

Speaking of Metallica, if you're watching the DVD of S&M(Symphony & Metallica for those that don't know), be sure to throw the word Metallica in if you tell someone over the phone "Dude I passed out drunk after watching S&M all night!"
