Yeah, this has been all over Finnish media for past two days. The most disturbing part for me was the fact that he shot dozens of kids arround 15 and 16. Kids on a summer camp. This guy comes to the island dressed as a police officer, gathers everybody into formation, and opens fire with pistol, automatic rifle and shotgun. What the fucking fuck.

Interesting detail: before bombers/shooters ethnicity & religious connections (native norvegian, right-wing christian) came into the light everybody - including terrorism experts, media, politicians - "knew" that this was islamic terrorism. I don't know why people have so much trouble grasping these statistics. I don't like the habbit where one group of people are always deemed guilty until proven otherwise.

It's Norway, Norway, tragedy strikes in Norway...
Everybody's sad, it's awful, awful

Seriously, it's totally messed up. Also, I was reading that the maximum jail sentence in Norway in 21 years. WTF? I'm hoping they can sentence him to 21 years per murder. The article wasn't clear on if they could or not.

I read somewhere that in extreme cases such as this, they probably will prolong the sentence when needed. So this guy will sit 21+5+5+5+5+5+5 etc. or something similar.

I rarely feel any sort of emotional connection to deaths in the news, but this was just all kinds of horrific and sad. I don't think I can imagine in my mind a person that is sick and twisted enough to do something like this.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Yea I was reading about this yesterday. Apparently Norway doesn't have the death penalty OR life sentences. But I'm hoping they're not opposed to giving him, say.....600 years in prison.

And yet, the murder rate is still higher everywhere else, even here in Canada.

That has nothing to do with anything.

That website doesn't appear to have any sort of bias whatsoever.

Oh it's completely slanted, but those sources are legit (FBI records and Europol studies). I just couldn't quickly find a better summary of the relevant points. Facts are facts, despite political views.

So why the hell did he kill a bunch of kids the same nationality as him if he was so opposed to "Cultural Marxism" and Islamic Absorption of Western Culture? What do a bunch of Norwegian kids have to do with any of that? Confused

Because it was a "Labour party youth camp" and he holds the Labour Party responsible??? Who knows why nutjobs choose to do anything? It was probably just for the attention.

I don't think it's fair to call him "Christian" when he's going out and indiscriminately slaughtering a bunch of people. You know...the exact opposite of what Jesus said to do.

Is there a large anti-Christian (really should be 'anti-Catholic', though) bias in Scandinavia? The few people I've run into from there (3-Sweden and 1-Norway) were reeeaaaaly bad about expressing their bias; loudly and often (like a Youtube commenter brought to life).

I understand this point. However, he apparently identified as a Christian. So we can either assume that he's wrong, or accept that there are Christians who do horrible things. I suppose a theologian could say, that he left Christ by doing what he did.

Well, depends what you call anti-Christian. I prefer to call Scandinavia "secular", as most (like myself) have nothing against Christianity. Scandinavia also has a tradition of religious freedom and peace (meaning that offending religious feelings is a crime). Majority (70-80%) of populations belong to the Lutheran Church, but it's true that religion doesn't have really that big part in their lives.

I'm sure they'll make an exception, it's not like what he did is a common occurrence, hell not to be disrespectful but he may be the most successful spree killer in the world to date. I highly doubt they'll sit their with their thumbs up their asses and let him get 21 years max.

This guy's a dick. Most of these shooters have the fucking decency to kill themselves when they're done. He's got to put the legal system through all this trouble.

I think a fitting punishment would be to lock him in a box for the rest of his life with a feeding tube injected into him, barely keeping him alive until the day he rots

Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!

It is as fair to call him christian as it is fair to call Bin-Laden a muslim, and I am sure 99% of muslims in the world are ashamed of what islamist terrorists do in the name of Allah, just as you and other christians are ashamed of what this fucker did in the name of the christian god.

Btw, I am norwegian, and it is true that among young people, christianity and other religions are not really regarded very well here. It is probably not as bad as how americans view islam, but in general young norwegians tend to be anti-religious and consider most things that have to do with religion as stupid and old-fashioned. Its probably because our liberal, semi-socialist society is so far away from the conservative societies that christianity traditionally have been a strong supporter of. On the other hand, most norwegians are fine with people being religious as long as they keep the religion out of the public.

On the subject of punishment, it is true that 21 years is considered life-penalty in Norway, however, there is something called "forvaring" who is used on dangerous criminals. Basically, it means that after 21 years a special comitee can decide that the criminal is a threat to public security, and therefore extend his trial for five years - and this can be done an infinite number of times, to make him, in practice, jailed for life.
