And if they do, you won't be getting help with removing them.

Apple has instructed its support staff to point callers towards a couple of antivirus programs "from anywhere" and avoid helping them in any other way.

It takes a lot of effort to download this thing and become infected, but sure enough professors where I work have had no trouble taking on this challenging task. I'm just glad it isn't my job to fix their computers anymore.

I think most people would know how to install authentic Mac antivirus software if they were shown examples. In fact there are some free ones you can download, and installation is as easy as either doing an install thingy (much like a typical windows setup.exe, only slightly dumbed down) or just dragging the program to the 'Applications' folder.

Some commentators on there are claiming that the artice is false/mistaken that Apple is not providing support for the issue when people call in.

Hmm, now that I read that article you were talking about, I see what you mean. That article might has well have read "OMG LAWL THERE'S A VIRUS FOR MAC! AND ALL THOSE MAC IDIOTS SAY THERE ISN'T" or something like that.

Apple itself was simply not addressing the issue. Of course PC users and publishers look at that type of behavior and mock it. It is unprofessional and unacceptable, but the only people who would tolerate it are Mac users.

Due to backlash from these negative articles, Apple reversed their stance and has begun to issue support for the malware. In addition they are publishing a fix in their next update.

Of course they have to deny malware for their system exists. How else would their supporters be able to continue to lord over the fact that Macs are immune to malware?

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

Not all their supporters believe that. I don't.

I was being sardonic in the vein of the first article. The image of them telling off PC users while sipping tea is the funniest thing I read this morning.

I don't believe in coffee. That's how underground I am.

It's not that Mac can't get viruses. It's that no one( or not many people) Makes viruses for Macs because it's not as popular as Windows, witch with out a doubt is the most widespread OS out there. Same with Linux systems.
