Please stop making a new thread for every news article that shows up in your RSS feed. Post them all here. If you make a new thread, it will either be merged with this thread, or if I'm too hot and tired to merge the threads then I'll just lock it.
Never mind.

LOL.
I kind of agree though, it'd be nice to have a Tech Thread, News Thread, etc, instead of 50 threads with 1 or 2 replies just taking up space.

I can get behind that, but there's going to be a whole lot of confusion when people start discussing multiple news feed articles at the same time. Should be fun!

Thank God for that. Remember when I moaned about the ridiclous number of news threads clogging up GD and everyone jumped on my balls about it a few months back?
Just sayin'.

To be fair, at that time username wasn't around. The amount of news stories has like quadrupled in the last month.
A dedicated Tech thread, News thread, Political thread, etc. like woodzy said is probably a good idea.

Those first two have multiple pages so there is no reason they couldn't have been bumped.

A single thread for multiple unique news stories is a bad suggestion and a misguided technical solution to a non-technical problem.
A forum by design uses threads to separate topics. If we are going to merge disjointed posts into the same threads, readers will lose context of the discussion. As far as I am aware, there is no current CMS product available that intentionally combines dissimilar conversations. Wikis, forums, and blogs, all separate their topics in order to be comprehensible to the human brain.
Purposefully misusing the forum software will ultimately lead to frustration amongst the community readership. It will decrease communication and create less meaningful conversations.

How about we just set a daily limit to how many topics one person can start on the forum? Can you even do that?

I agree, but I don't post enough outside of the videogame board to care anymore. I will say that some old timers like bomberman and char have said in the past that they don't post as much anymore because things have gotten boring. Might be all the political talk, but I don't know. I'm not an expert.
Common sense will tell me, though, that if general discussion is supposed to be general discussion. If it'sbeing overrun with multiple topics of a similar subject frequently (this isn't just a flavor of the week thing here. a lot of guys post and reply about news and politics here. Not a bad thing, just not a general discussion thing.) it's usually a good idea to give them their own section to discuss that.
I've known boards in the past that have done that, and it was fine. Kinda like seperating sports from television. You just make a "politics, news, and current events" subforum inside "outside the box" right along with sports and toys and movies and the rest. hardly clutter.
Another thing that I've learned is that your forumers are the life of your board. You might not like a certain decision, but if it makes them all happy, why not do it? it's better than having your longstanding guys get bored or annoyed and drifting away. I've seen guys like knyte and gishman post tech news a bunch of times, and people have made multiple topics asking for computer help. Knyte has even expressed interest in making weekly posts with tech tutorials. these are all excellent reasons to start a tech forum inside "outside the box".
I know that this is frowed upon because it supposedly makes clutter or something, but the way I see it, you'd actually be reducing clutter, and pleasing a decent amount of your forumers. It's not like we're having multiple subforums inside of other subforums, with links to other boards and stuff to confuse people. It's a straight line, non confusing. I realy think you should at least consider it.

Yeah, a "news" subforum or something like that is the obvious solution here. There would be enough traffic to warrant its existence, GD wouldn't be cluttered with news stories anymore, and people like me who hate the news can avoid it easily.

The only result this will have for me are twofold:
1) Instead of just ignoring the news stories I don't care about, I'll just ignore them all because I don't want to bother having to check this thread.
2) If I see a news story I want to share, I'm just gonna make my own topic for it anyways, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.
Honestly, while I think some people could stand to cut back on the reposting of news stories, is it really that much of an issue having one thread for each one? At the very least, it keeps discussions on track, instead of having 3 people posting about 3 different stories and getting 10 replies and having to sort them out.

Beautifully Said.
I was a big poster of News Stories, but usually like 1 or 2 a day, when I noticed the GD getting swamped with them, I was already preparing to hear some backlash, so I said "I'll go ahead and stop posting mine".

I agree with FNJ when he said things are boring now and I think discussing what we should do with news stories is adding to the boringness.

How about instead of just posting some quote and the link to a story, you actually include your own opinion. Spur some conversation that way.
I'm sick of seeing
