Quote:
Celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall are under way.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel joined ex-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and former Polish President Lech Walesa in a walk across a former checkpoint.

Earlier, a service was held at Gethsemane Church, where protests went on for the months before the wall fell.

The wall's fall led to the collapse of Communist power, German reunification and the Cold War's end.

or the wiki on the wall: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_Wall

Apparently Obama was invited to come for the anniversary along with a number of other world leaders, and he declined the invitation. Dunno if anyone else declined, but as I understand it most likely not.

Only a socialist would decline an invitation to celebrate the fall of Western communism.

Today is my birthday. That's good enough for me lol.

Interesting trivia for you though:

My father was born on the date the Berlin wall was built.

and then i was born on the day it was knocked down.

Quite unusual really.

On this day in 1995, Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Nigerian human rights activists were hanged.

Today is also my godmother's birthday.

Don't blame me, I didn't make them coincide.
