Humans are intent on inventing shit that can kill you with unnecessary force. Grenade launchers, rpgs, fuck think about flamethrowers.

Flamethrowers are actually useful and have a purpose. So do RPGs and grenade launchers, which aren't exactly used against infantry. You use RPGs and grenades to inflict damage on armored vehicles. You use flamethrowers to, like, control wildfires. Oh, and kill bees.

Fix'd, sorry about that. A perfect demonstration of liquid sense-making, also known as booze. Don't drink, kids.

Flamethrowers have a necessary use, scaring the ever living fuck out the enemy and convincing them that you do not fuck around.

Trust me, there are stupid people out there. No exceptions.
While most people will have the common sense to never attempt to do things from videogames like jumping off a 10 story building and try to land rolling to avoid damage, there's always that tiny percentage of people who will attempt to ignore physics just because a videogame told them so.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.
On the bright side, because of this practice, said group will grow smaller and smaller over time.

Wouldn't SOME kind of sense have kicked in? Running backwards with a loaded weapon AND attempting to shoot it...doesn't that come off as just SLIGHTLY unsafe?

They are good for deforesting and I think you can clear bunkers with them. But theres a reason we don't have a flamethrower guy with every squad like he's the black mage of the group.

Also, flamethrowers are legal in every state...even California, where nothing is legal, sans marijuana. Loopholes and such for flamethrowers, thank the lawd.

One sniper's bullet to the tank = lost money for training/gear and one less soldier.

Using FIRE to BURN things? This would be my favorite weapon anyway. The evil of the flamethrower, and the fact that it's "fire". I enjoy burning shit, but burning people just seems a little mean.

I'd like to see him try a grenade jump. If he times it right all should go well.

How about stepping on a land mine, then trying to place a heavy rock on it, to prevent detonation? Running over explosives, and not dying; that's the way of unrealistic video games.
Pulling the pin on a grenade, and putting it back in. I wonder if that works?
There is so much stupid shit you can try. In time I'm sure people will try it.

I don't know if putting the pin back in does anything, but doesn't the grenade not starting counting down so to say until after you let the metal shit the pin was holding in pop off?

It's called a safety lever. Releasing it ignites the fuse inside the grenade.
It is important to note that there are a fuckton of grenade types and not every one has this feature. Of special mention are the Model 24 used by the Nazis which, once you pulled the string that ignited the damn thing, gave you five seconds to throw it the fuck away from you. Once you lighted it, there was no turning back.
Of course, the string was protected by a screw-on cap that you had to unscrew before combat. Well, you could unscrew them during combat, but that would require all your kraut buddies covering your nazi balls while you wasted time doing it. On the flip side, they could be thrown much further than the grenades issued to the Allies.

I know that one lol. What about when grampa simpson puts his helmet over a grenade? Think that would make sense?

I dunno, gonna have to ask one of the Military types round here. I'm assuming it would be safer than just throwing yourself on top of one.

Technically, yes it's safer, and your chances of surviving are arguably better than diving on top of one. There's some story floating around the USMC's EOD floating around about a dude that tried this and survived.

Interesting. I now have a survival technique on the off-chance I have military grade helmets and a live grenade lying around.

If you're suddenly faced with a grenade, you pretty much have only two choices:
a) Get the fuck away from it and hit the deck.
b) Try to kick it away and die as it explodes just before your foot connects.

Countless times to me alone in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Kicking grenades makes them actually go way further than if you would throw it. In real life, though, I'm not sure any soldier is dumb enough to actually try that.
