I just upgraded to windows 7 yesterday, it took only an hour and none of my old stuff was deleted like I thought it was going to be (just a common misconception). It runs faster, better, and prettier. I've always loved the Aero theme. And they've kept it. The GUI is much simpler too. My favorite part however is that they finally included mouse wheel zoom in paint! Even though I use the GIMP usually. Anyone else gotten 7 or thinking about getting it?

I have yet to upgrade because from what I understand, older games like MechCommander and Starcraft can't run on a 64-bit system. So I'm hanging on as long as I can to avoid losing my ability to play them.

Win7 is also comes in 32 bit.....

64 bit is just for addressing more than 4GB's of RAM, that's pretty much it. Most games wont use all 4 anyway(max of 2.4GB in my experience) and ur FPS are always about the same in 64 vs 32.

my starcraft runs fine in 64bit just a FYI. Yeah I have been nothing but happy with win 7

My laptop came with Windows 7. Shit's so cash...
Unfortunately I got the bundled Starter Edition, meaning that some of the best visuals of the OS were not included. Bummer... but it works fine, so it's okay.

My new comp has 7. I like it, but then I never understood why so many people disliked Vista. Worked fine for me.

Windows 7 is miles better than Vista, but then again everything is better than Vista Smile

Vista is this generation's ME, as it seems.
I cannot tell, I jumped to 7 right from XP anyways.

I was an early adopter of 7. Once it hit RTM, it became my default OS. I dealt with any and all problems that it brought. I did the same with Vista, XP, 2000, ME, 98SE, etc.

I can tell you without a question of a doubt that Vista had more compatibility issues than 7 because developers didn't develop for it. They didn't see any compelling reason to. However over the next few years they did make sure that everything ran on both Vista and XP. As it turns out Windows 7 is just Vista with a point release update. It makes sense that everything feels better on 7 because Vista has been updated to be better. They slapped a new style on top and fixed the task bar. Ta Da!

The truth is, Vista was terrible when it first came out. SP2 isn't that bad. SP3, aka Windows 7 has been great, and Windows 7 SP1 will be just slightly better.

No matter how you want to look at it, most applications should run fine on a Windows 7 64-bit system. In a worst case scenario you can download a virtual environment and run a 32 bit OS to make the program happy.

I'd say it is more in line with XP. It is the first major release of an OS that is an upgrade of a previous OS rather than a fresh start. In some ways it is more similar to ME than people give it credit for.

Of course your statement is about the product's reception and usability, while mine is on its version and progression path.

The reason why it isn't like 2000 is because Windows 2k was designed for business use. That was it. Windows 7 is designed for home and business use. This makes it hard to directly compare to any OS that wasn't designed for equal purposes.

All of the computers at my school still use XP. I suspect it will be around for years to come despite the lack of support from Microsoft.

And my laptop (well...desktop now since the screen broke. I plugged it into a CRT moniter) came with windows 7 home premium and I love it. It runs smoother than XP or vista.

which is expected from my systems 3 gigs of ram and a 64 bit operating system Cool

I never liked IE, the only people who I know that still use it tell me to fuck off when I say we should use chrome because it's faster... I'm not saying that syd is that much of o blatant asshole though, but I am saying that N IS FUCKING AWESOME!

At least the 95 style doesn't have rounded corners on the windows making it possible to accidentally close the window behind the one you meant to close.
