Meh, I'm not at all excited for the motion controls revolution that's apparantly on the horizon. Playing the Wii for me is an exercise in patience because the controls can get so fucked up so quickly and really don't add anything to the games.

I don't think motion sensing will ever completely replace controllers. While hands free interaction work for some games (Casual and family games), other are much better suited to controllers. (RPG, Platformers, etc.)

Traditional fighters would never work with motion controls, I don't think anyone in real life could do a flash kick, let alone most of the super moves..

Really? I am actually VERY excited for EyeToy 2.0: Microsoft Edition. The original EyeToy set the gaming world on fire with its exciting and revolutionary gameplay, and was responsible for at least 60% of all PS2 sales. Hell, the EyeToy is what made the PS2 fun. Without it, all you had was a stupid black box that couldn't do anything except run dull games that didn't have motion controls and play DVDs of movies that you could have seen in theaters months earlier.

The issue is feedback, even if its the feedback of having a real object in your hands. Its just hard for the brain to distinguish between the press of a phantom button and twitching your thumb into nothing but air because physically speaking they are identical.

Well when I first saw BtTF I wasn't excited for an era where I didn't need friggin' hands to play a game, I wanted a damn Hoverboard!

Exactly. Gaming is a largely tactile experience. Until we live in a world where we have virtual reality headsets that are able send signals to our brains to trick us into believing that we're touching something when we aren't, controller-less gaming is doomed to fail.

Would trade all my computers and games for one. Even if they were common.
So fucking awesome and I have wanted one since I saw the movie.

Tell that to fucking Nintendo who think motion controls belong in every single game. God, I hate the Wii.
I always liked the suspended fruit bowl they had in the McFly house. All you have to do is just yell "FRUIT!" and the Supermarket fruit section comes down. Pretty sweet. That dehydrated pizza looked really good too.

With Nintendo, motion-sensing hasn't replaced controllers; the experience is still tactile. You're still holding something. Project Natal is a controller-free, flail-like-your-arms-like-an-idiot experience. It is even more gimmicky, and it is not at all tactile.

I know. Natal is just moving further into the retarded direction that Nintendo only wanted to go half-way down. Controller or not, buttons or not, I'm still waving my arms around like an idiot trying to interact with a stupid ass sensor bar instead of focusing on the damn video game.
I really do believe that even if you're holding a Wii remote, for the most part motion controls have replaced the controller on the Wii. It was replaced when I am forced to flick my wrist to attack instead of pressing A.

What bothers me about the video they show in the Natal link I posted, is when the girl is playing the racing game. She steers in the air, which turns the car. She does a shifting motion to change gears. But, how the hell is she accellerating and braking? Her feet aren't moving. Also, I call BS, because teenage girls don't play racing games.

Is Natal an add on? or part of a new console? I really don't see this blowing up. Seriously, I don't want to steer with air, I want a fucking steering wheel.

It's gonna be for the 360, but Microsoft is treating it as if it is a new console launch.

Well, what you believe is stupid and incorrect.
Aside from something like Wii Sports which is actually fun with the motion controls, few A-List and B-List Wii games use the motion controls heavily. The first generation of Wii games, as well as the constant flow of third party C-List and D-List titles that no one actually buys, rely heavily on the motion controls, but all the real, new games that use them now do so in an intuitive fashion.
Furthermore Negative Nancy, the conversation has long since evolved past "Waaaah! Teh motions controls suxorz" and into a serious discussion of why Project Natal is problematic because it fails to meet basic psychological needs. The human experience is a tactile one, and Natal is not. When a person plays bowling or tennis on the Wii, they do so with a proxy bowling ball or a proxy tennis racket. This isn't because Nintendo only "halfway committed" to motion controls, it's because the human brain requires it. It's a lot easier, both physically and mentally, to play pretend tennis when you're holding onto something, than when you're not.
Now either contribute something meaningful and worthwhile to this thread or don't post in it again.

I don't understand all the pissing and moaning about the Wii's "bad motion controls" and "shitty sensors". Obviously whoever made these claims has never used the Power Glove.

Syd, I agreed with you that Natal is retarded taking the concept Nintendo introduced with the Wii too many steps further by eliminating all tactile sensations. But you have to agree as well that holding a shortened plastic tennis raquet hitting an imaginary ball is less tactile than real life, so it's halfway between reality and what Natal is doing, which is what I meant by Nintendo only going halfway. They could have gone full on motion with the Wii, but they kept some tacticity even when you still are just waving your arm in the air with no real force feedback. I never disagreed with you about humanity's need to hold a chunk of plastic, but even half-way sucks balls in my opinion.
You may feel like the thread has evolved past complaints about motion controls in your own head, but that's exactly what you're complaining about with Natal. Put a psychological spin on it, fine, but you're still saying "Wah, motion controls suck, especially if I can't hold a controller!"
I think my contributions to the thread were on topic and did further the discussion, even if you disagree with me about most Wii games relying on unintuitive motion controls, and I don't really feel like my posts warrant a threat from you.

Yeah, that's a double whammy. Green screen games. One, you don't have anything to touch or grab while playing. And, two, you have to watch yourself in the game, to see where to move your body. Double fail.
I think the points of Project Natal that I am looking forward to are:
Facial Recognition = You can simply turn on your X360, it will see you sitting on the couch and log in your Profile.
Voice Recognition = Verbal commands may come in handy if used right.
Instant Video Conference with other Natal users. = Neat, but how often when you call someone, do you really wish you could see them? Though it does have other uses. Free international long-distance calls, and I can play magic and such with Asmodeous who moved to frickin Alaska.
And, call me strange, but I really like those AI expiremental games. Such as LCP, Seaman, N.U.D.E., and such. So the whole idea behind Project Natal: Milo intrigues me.
