I said regular post, not e-mail (or I meant to, rather). A handwritten letter takes a lot more effort, therefore from a company perspective it's coming from someone who cares a lot more. An e-mail, while still a lot better than someone clicking the "I agree with whatever this says" button on a petition, is much easier to ignore. I suggested an early e-mail because it's a question, not a request.
Still, couldn't hurt to send a bunch of e-mails. Especially if you send letters too.
