By first one, I take it you are referring to Grand Theft Auto III?

Nope, I was referring to GTA I.

I hate the majority of JRPGs. I just don't understand their appeal. Maybe I've grown spoiled on D&D and its freedom of play, but I just don't enjoy JRPGs. (With the exception of FF I and II.)

Halo. Halo. Halo.

Also:
Zelda: Link to the Past.
Any first-person shooter taking place during WWII, especially if it contains zombies.
Any Resident Evil released after 0.
Any Final Fantasy game that isn't II, VI, VII, or X (I have yet to play IX, though.)
Any of the Donkey Kong Country games (this is a big one for me)
The Simpsons arcade game.
Any of the Dragon Warrior games other than III.
The first three Grand Theft Auto games.
The Diablo games.

I enjoyed Call of Duty 4, but I just cannot get into COD 5 at all. On the classic front, I'm not too much of a fan of Yoshi's Island.

Iva gotta crapload of em.

Lets see.. any and all 3d fighters can burn. That includes the Tekken series, the Virtua Fighter, and for the love of christ the Soul Calibur series. Its broken as all hell, with its ringouts and friendliness to brainless button mashing making all of the fancy supers utterly pointless and the most bullshit story ever conceived.

Grand Theft Auto. I never got into it.

First person shooters of any stripes, just not my genre. Halo, Gears of War, Bioshock, on and on and etcetera.

A lot of these are from genres that I already dislike, so its not wholly fair. Now for one thats from a genre that I enjoy, KOTOR. There I said it, its not that hot. The morality system is a joke, the mechanics are star wars D20, which is a jocks stolen term paper worth of mechanics slapped together from D20 modern, which is a failure of a tabletop system anyway and a poor substitute for a mechanic that was never meant to be used in real time or by a system that doesn't have to do the calculations by hand. Story has a revelation that surprises me but doesn't shock me, which requires emotional resonance which I never got.

I didn't like Oblivion or Fallout 3 either, and you might be well justified in assuming that I don't like western RPGs, but I LOVE fallout 1-2 and Planscape:Torment.

Metal Gear. All of them. Every bloody one of them. I know for a fact that there are games out there with better stories, better stealth, and better gunplay. The whole thing is clumsy, and I will never understand you fanboys.

From the JRPG standpoint, its FF7. Everybody thinks I'm playing the hype backlash here, but I did play it and I did not like it and I'm pissed off that I can't just dislike this game, but I have to get into a giant argument every time it comes up. FF is even one of my favorite series of games. FF1, FF5, FF6, and FF9 are all big games to me and consumed a great deal of my time and energy, so its not any sort of bias that kept me from liking FF7.

Diablo. What a waste of time, and the term I use when I think an RPG has no artistic soul.

The sonic games. A series that never hooked me, for a game about speed it had an offsetting pace that bugged me a great deal. I had sonic on a sega six in one cartridge and let me tell you when four of the other five games are shinobi II, golden axe, super hang on, and streets of rage, take a guess what actually got selected.

That reminds me: Fuck Final Fantasy 8. This has nothing to do with Spoony (although his review does hit all of my major complaints), but I hate the emo protagonist, tissue-thin storyline, and overly complex junctioning system.

Diablo II is damn fun on multiplayer, but Diablo I did seem extremely soulless.

Dude, I fucking hate Halo.

Also, I do agree with Usa and think FFVII is a bit overrated.

You have got to be fucking shitting me.... WHAT!?

Without being very long-winded, Mario pioneered 2D and 3D and has pushed more games, and to an extent, consoles, than any franchise in history.

That is pretty great.

Just to clarify, I don't mean to downplay the Mario games' significance to the gaming universe. I know the games are popular for a reason.

They just were never my cup of tea. I suppose I would have to say that about side-scrolling platformers in general......the genre itself just never appealed to me that much.

The Contra games. I don't hate them, I just don't find them that fun. Sure, I suck at them, but I get bored of them too easily to really get any better.

Tomb Raider. I only tried the first one but it looked like total crap. The others seem to be better though.

Most beat-em-ups. Maybe I just get pissed too easily.

From what has already been said : FF8, all Metal Gears, Resident Evil, most FPS, and the fucking GTA games.

See, that's understandable.

Me on the other hand, was raised on side-scrolling platformers.

I wasn't under the impression that "everybody" like Final Fantasy VIII. In fact, I always thought it was the black sheep of the series.

I didn't hate Final Fantasy VIII, but I don't think it will be my favorite either. To tell you the truth I haven't finished it yet. However it seems like a little too much watching and not enough playing. It's great for a game to have a story and all but if I want to watch a movie I'll go out and rent a DVD. If I want to play a game, then I'd rather play a game.

However I'll stick with my original discussion about hating Dragon Warrior. I never played any of the sequels because the first one sucked so much. Did the sequels get any better?

I'll never understand the appeal of GTA games. I bought the PS2 trilogy on a whim back when I still had a job and I wasn't impressed. The explosions were nice and all but all of the protagonists were complete assholes with weak storylines to try and compensate for their reasoning. I especially disliked the game's shooting aspect. No matter how hard I'd try I'd always end up dying within two seconds if I didn't look for some BS glitch or something to run into my opponents with. The sound of the guns pissed me off as well, they all sounded like popcorn and the characters always look like their faces are swollen. The free roaming aspect is nice and I actually enjoy some of the songs they chose however when the land you're roaming contains nothing but depressing sexual puns and horribly pessimistic and unlikable people you kind of grow tired of it. I didn't even want to kill the people, I just kind of wanted them to go away.

Columns? I don't particularly hate any game but if it has bad controls or no option to change them it's usually lasts about 10 seconds.

...Secret of Mana isn't turn, based, or RPG.

I also never really liked it.

Oh? whatever. Just goes to show I dismiss things I hear people talk about as shitty with the intentions of being non-conformist.

Dragon Warrior III on GBC was THE RPG of my childhood. The rest of the DW games I've played are snoozefests, though.

It seems that in fact your incredible stupidity is not the only reason you may have not understood that last sentence. Rolling Eyes

To better construct: I had the game sonic on a six in one pack cartridge, and with sonic competing with classic Sega goodness like Shinobi II, Golden Axe, Super Hang On, and Streets of Rage, the overrated hedgehog suffered much the same fate as that shitty gem puzzle game on there.

To better construct my point it was a joke. I forget that robots are devoid of a thing such as humor. I didn't think I needed to add the This Is A Joke or the Laughing
