Guadia Quest doesn't really need magazines, though. I'm on my third challenge now, I think. What sucks about this game is that you have both save the game in Guadia Quest, and then save the ACTUAL game itself, otherwise you lose your challenges.

You should totally check out the IRC channel.
While you're at it, go check out my band, Her Majesty's Heroines.

For any Japanese speaking folks we might have, or those who just love this game enough to make use of a gamefaqs guide to play through, Retro Game Challenge 2 is now out in Japan! Copies can be imported or acquired through *ahem* other means. I already have my copy, and it's just as awesome as the first game is. Here's hoping the second one gets translated, too, and that this one doesn't take two years to do so. Very Happy

I've been playing it, got up to the "Detective Arino" game, and have realised that my extremely rudimentary knowledge of Japanese won't get me far.

By the way, GameCenter CX's (the TV show the Japanese games are based off of) host, Arino, has seen the American localization of the first game. He said he likes the localization, and wants XSeed to hurry up with localizing the second game. So, I presume we'll be getting Retro Game Challenge 2 either later in the year, or early next year (assuming the first game sells enough for XSeed to justify the sequel).

As for the game itself, GM Arino looks rather badass now-

As well as that, other improvements include-
Different consoles (as well as the Famicom from the first game, you get games for a handheld console, and one 16-bit title)
The ability to skip challenges (using the phone)
You can turn off Arino's voice (though his voice in the Japanese version is pretty decent, so I haven't done that yet)
along with a ton of other stuff I really don't know enough to tell you about.

No you don't. just save in Guadia Quest, then you can turn your DS off.

I too have been playing the second one (being in the final "beat 'em all" challenge of the first) and I like all the games so far, especially Mutekiken Kung-Fu, GunDuel, both Demon Returns games, Triots, and the remixed versions of RGC1 games you can play at the store. This has GOT to come stateside.

tuddy, I have a save you can download with all games unlocked if you ever just say "fuck it" with Kacho wa Meitantei (provided you use a flashcard.)

I'm interested, Kacho wa Meitantei has p'd me off to the point I've stopped playing on my DS just to get away from it.

http://drop.io/gccx2save -- Thanks to a guy at GBAtemp's forums. It's in normal .sav format, you may have to convert it depending on what card you use.

You should definitely check out GunDuel and Super Demon Returns before anything else.

WAY too early for that.
Translating roms (unless tools already exist to edit text strings easily) is quite possibly the hardest thing when it comes to rom hacking, due to all the byte limits, screen size limits etc you have to hack your way around. I'd explain in more detail, but then we'd be here for a few days.

also- @ Mr. Bomberman- thanks for giving me the save, just converted it to work on my R4 (cycloDS saves won't work on the R4, for whatever reason). I'll try out the games you recommended, also.
