I agree Panda. Horror movies, to me, are usually mindless popcorn flicks that you watch to waste time, but Saw's plot was actually good enough for me to buy it - and I never buy horror films on dvd.
Now, I haven't seen any of the Saw movies (although I've been told that I would like the first one.) What did you think of the sequels? Were they equally good, or did the series go downhill?

The first Saw movie was incredibly original, and having seen all of the others except for the newest, I can honestly say they suck, hard. The whole end of 2, 3 and 4 serves as a mindfuck, and it's cheap, like saying "Oooh, betcha didn't see that comin'!"
The second seemed more like a teenage slasher flick, and they have gone downhill from there.

Great call, that movie was terrific. At first I was like How are they making a soccer hooligan movie with Elijah Wood, but he actually pulled it off surprisingly well.
I was the same way, i became completely obsessed with it and watched it repeatedly. The only bad thing about the movie is that it gets you all worked up and I feel like I need to fight somebody after I watch it.

Hudson Hawk. I really like this movie, but I think I'm alone. And its not like other movies where its the cheese appeal like lets say The Last Dragon. I think its a genuinely funny comedy that people were determined to dislike.
No you're not. Hudson Hawk was totally kick ass with all the singing and chintzy jokes.

I haven't seen all of them. But I liked the end of 2. I really didn't see that coming. I didn't think it was cheap mindfuck.

Saw II was dumb. There was a solution to the puzzle, but the characters didn't really try to figure it out, and by the time someone did, the movie had deteriorated into a slasher flick and the solution was rendered irrelevant.
Saw III had potential, but the ending irreversibly damaged the franchise in a way that permanently detracts from further sequels.

I couldn't disagree more. I've loved every one of the sequels so far (except maybe V as I mentioned before, it's not quite as complex and interesting as the last 4), and of course as with all sequels, there is some dropoff, but it's really not that much. All 5 have been compelling and were entertaining movies to me and have a lot less drop off than most movie series that have had as many sequels. I'd recommend watching I-IV at the very least.
I think shouting that the movies suck hard and calling the plots cheap mindfucks like M. Night's "twists", is doing a disservice to people who are interested in seeing the Saw films which don't deserve that attitude in my opinion. They are well made, well directed and written, and genuinely fun movies.
I think it's a series of movies everyone should watch because they achieve what movies are supposed to do; to entertain and make you think when it's over.

Yeah, they have definitely deteriorated in quality. The only film that truly stayed loyal to the whole concept was the first film.
Also underrated: The Count of Monte Cristo
F'ing love that movie, especially because Caviezel and Pearce are in it, two great actors. It's a great adaptation to the novel to me.
I think a lot of people dislike it cuz it changed a few significant things from the novel, but to me, those changes were great, and made complete sense. Then again, I'm no fan of Alexandre Dumas anyway.

YES! How could I have forgotten that one? It's one of my favorites and I've read the novel. It's a great adaptation that wisely left out all the boring, long winded pointless junk from the book, but kept all the good stuff and was directed brilliantly.
That reminds me of another underrated movie that's one of my favorites, The 13th Warrior with Antonio Banderas. It's just such a pure, fun as hell movie.

When I was groing up, everyone loved Cheech and Chong. They don't seem to be as popular with today's crowd.
Anything with John Ritter is underrated.

Sorry, had to.
And, 25th Hour is underrated, in my opinion. Though a pretty popular movie back in '02, it deserves to have a higher ranking on IMDB. It should be in the Top 250 at least. Incredible movie.
I liked Agent Cody Banks. It was a cute movie that most people seem to ignore.

OH HELLS YES. I "obtained" this movie back when it first came out in the US, and because I liked it so much, I imported a DVD. I even went through the trouble of making my new DVD player region-free so I could rewatch it (bear in mind it's the only region 1 DVD I own).
It's a shame nobody's willing to distribute it in the UK because I'm sure it'd do very well over here, it reminds me of Little Britain before Little Britain was overrated and shit.

These two arent underrated in my opinion. Office Space is great and it has achieved the cult hit status which is enough praise in my opinion. 12 Monkeys is basically everywhere when the list is long enough, after Brazil it is regarded as Gilliam's best.

Simon Pegg is a man who deserves the praise although I find Shaun of the Dead a lot better than Hot Fuzz if I need to compare his collaborations with Edgar Wright.

Punisher: War Zone.
They FINALLY got the Punisher right.
Sure, the movie is cheesy at times, but it is the Punisher doing what he does best. Killing. Lots and lots of killing.
