Well, I had a problem playing Super Mario World with the GCN controller. In fact, I can only play it with the Classic Controller. Hell, that thing is just an SNES controller with thumbsticks and an extra set of shoulder buttons.

I wish you could use the classic controller on the PC.

Just you wait, some hacker somewhere will make a classic controller port for the PC.

And how many of those multiplayer games were completely unplayable with a single player?

And if this was such a good strategy, why did the US release of the system include a second controller port?

The US's TurboGrafx-16 also had only ONE controller port, and required use of the TurboTap. And, there were quite a few great games designed for multiplayer. For example:

Double Dungeons.
Dungeon Explorer (Designed for 5 players at once)
Street Fighter II': Special Champion Edition
Final Lap Twin
The Ninja Warriors

I do remember my grandmother renting a TG-16 from a video store one time, and I do remember it having two controllers and two slots.

But to be perfectly honest, I'll take your word over my very hazy memory.

But remember, there is a big difference between a game that -requires- a special adapter (like Guitar Hero) and one that is enhanced by one (like these Multitap games). You can still play every one of those games by yourself.

I'm not sure people are getting my point. Releasing a game that requires an optional component to play it is not a good idea. Businesses are very reluctant to do this because you're limiting your market. It's what makes sense. Unless they can somehow mitigate this factor (with controller pack-ins or the like), it's not worth doing. And if you think that feeling is stupid, history has shown thus far otherwise.

You don't need the guitar for guitar hero.

I beat Guitar Hero 3 with a controller, and then went out and bought a used guitar controller. I also have a friend who competes against people online in GH3 on X360, who can get over 90% on Through The Fire & Flames with the standard controller.

Anyways, I believe that history has shown more that if you hype it enough, people will buy anything.

I mean I was crazy enough to buy this many years ago, back before there were $200 Band Set games:

My friend bought a double arcade stick panel for PS2. We used it once and no one liked it. That was at least $100.
