Comcast: Do they take Sundays off?

Just wondering if anyone that has Comcast is experiencing this. I just switched to Comcast at the end of November. Ever since I switched every Sunday around 4pm my connection gets super super slow and it pretty much stays that way until sometimes Monday around 9am-11am.

It's bullshit, Sunday is one of the only days I have time to raid in WoW. My Troll Death Knight, Keylogger, needs Moarr epics. It's just not fair to him, how is he supposed to sit around in Dalaran looking cool and being bored if he can't raid?

First of all, Comcast is open on Sundays.

Second of all, you need to make sure that you have their "high speed" connection. Having a cable modem doesn't mean it is going to run high speed.

Do this test 3 times and report your speeds.

I Know, and I do have high speed Internet. I experience no problems any other day of the week. It always happens around Sunday afternoon at 3pm -4pm.

While those numbers are plenty fast, they are not Comcast's fastest's line speeds.

I usually get between 18000 and 22000.

Next time that you have a WoW issue, try that speed test. If the numbers remain the same, then it is a WoW problem. If the numbers go down, it may be a Comcast problem.

What did you switch to Comcast from? I had Comcast for two and half years and hated it. Their customer service and service in general is horrible. Me and my roomies had many complications with them and just last summer switched to Verizon and it is leagues better.

Comcast is lazy because they feel they monopolize the market (in some areas they really do).

I suggest changing to Verizon if at all possible as they also use the speedy fiber optics cables (Fios).

If you live in an apartment building, it could be getting bogged down from net traffic within the building if everyone is accessing it at the same time.

When I used to live in an apartment I had a similar problem to that - eventually more people than the building was set up for were hooked in, and since they were hooked up with a bunch of splitting cables the signal deteriorated.

Yeah, I get that problem, plus im at the edge of the signal, too. My Xbox 360 gets it the worst, it takes up to like 15 minutes to get the first Halo match because there are a lot of people on the server. I dont really have that problem anymore though, as my attention to that game has diminished heavily.

My grandparents are having problems with Comcast too, but just their phone service.

It's not WoW, I know how to differentiate, it’s not my router either, it appears to be the ISP.

I had Qwest, which was consistently slower than comcast is. I have had Comcast in the past and I have experienced customer service issues with them but never any huge service issues like this.

Yea I really never had a good experience with Comcast and was thrilled when Verizon told us there services reached us.

If you really think it is your ISP, then you should prepare to ask them to do a few things.

1) Test their throughput and verify your speed.
2) Verify that your equipment is adequate for the line speed that you have been rated for.

I think Comcast tech support hates me, because I'm the guy that calls to bitch at 3am on a Sunday night when my internet goes down, because they are doing "scheduled maintenance".

Too bad, you can only use 12500 of that max. All cable modems only have a 100 MBPS ethernet connection on them. (In this case, the MBPS stand for MegaBITs Per Second and not MegaBYTES per second.)

So a 100 Megabit connection is only really 12.5 Megabytes of transfer.

We won't get any faster until Comcast starts handing out modem with Gigabit ethernet, instead of the standard 100 Megabit ones. Not too mention, you would need to have a Gigabit ethernet connection on your PC as well. (Which most motherboards made in the last 5 years have standard, but most routers and hubs are 10/100 and not 10/100/1000 which would make use of the Gigabit speed.)\

I use a 10/100 router for the internet connection, but have it upload into a Gigabit switch, so all my PCs at home can share files at full 1000 MBPS speed. (Well, as fast as they can go anyways, since 1000MBPS is faster than most Hard Drives can read and write.)

Ok, Well I just got my Comcast Bill when I got home too, keep in mind I have only had Comcast for 1 month.

Ok, the point being though is it is unbelievably slow every Sunday. It takes sometimes up to a minute to load threads on this forum. Sometimes it's relatively normal but still noticeably slower than normal, but other times a minute per page. Huge spikes there.

Another funny story with Comcast.

When we had it our internet would go down so often that my roommate would call them and chew em out upon opening the bill. As a result he managed to get our bill discounted quite often.....in the end however it did not matter much as the service was still so fucking mediocre.

Knight is correct about the speed. There are hardware maximums. In this particular case though the comparative speed is the issue at hand, not the maximum throughput.

Ethernet (10base-X) 10 Mbit/s 1.25 MB/s
Fast Ethernet (100base-X) 100 Mbit/s 12.5 MB/s
Gigabit Ethernet (1000base-X) 1,000 Mbit/s 125 MB/s

Comcast offers me 16Mbit/s = 2 MB/s with burst speeds up to 22Mbit/s = 2.75 MB/s

Ask them what speeds they offer you.

Ahhh good ol' Comcast. Where you can occasionally pay for the low end service and through the miracle of terrible service, get speed of 32000, 28000, and 29000 (my actual numbers from a month or so ago) going from Grand Rapids to Seattle on the next to lowest end service. Other days you cant even connect for no apparent reason despite the help lines assurances there arent any outages.....

250GB a month??? My cap is 20GB download and 10GB upload. The first month I didn't know that and had 80GB download and a 50$ fee.

My internet is quite cheap though, and relatively fast too (up to 800 kbps on downloads I think)
