Mortal Kombat's move set doesn't have diagonals, so its easier to use on a keyboard. Kega Fusion emulator have this problem with analog sticks sucking, which was resolved in version 3.6 (along with a more convenient Menacer mode and the ability to use the Justifier). Also, Saitek gamepads are beasts in fighting games, but the inconvenient design of the analog sticks hinder you in FPSing.

Genesis 6-button D-pad was best in those type of games. SNES and Playstation d-pads aren't quite as good, top-positioned analog sticks are OK, and the joystick I found awkward after spoiling myself on a round D-Pad.
