D-Pads in general are not ideal for fighting games. Anything beyond a quarter circle is a chore.

360/720 moves are only plausible with an arcade stick.
I can perform 360's consistently on the PS2 controller, 720's are reserved for when people stand next to me when I wake up, or right out of a jump on SFIII where you can parry. I still can't do 360's consistently on the keyboard, which is why I stick to KoF on ROMs. But yeah the arcade cabinet style is the best way to play 2D fighters, especially ones with 6 buttons.

I curious how the 360 controller uses. Its D-pad seems a bit more fluid.

The 360 d-pad is notorious for sucking.

I suck at complete circle movements myself, even on my PS1 controller.

See, the best d-pad for the 360 motion imo, was the 6 button controller for the Genesis. It was really loose and dint have the individual buttons for each direction. It swiveled nicely. On My emulators, I just toggle my d-pad to my left analog stick and use that for 360/720s

Special moves like dragon punches and fireballs are for hosers. Real players of 2d fighters only need a quick punch/kick, medium punch/kick, and fierce punch/kick, 4 two hit combos, and maybe 1 or two non projectile special moves. That is all.

However, I am confident in my SF skills, and while I don't promote the spamming of, I do utilize the well timed fireball/dragon punch.

Mortal Kombat's move set doesn't have diagonals, so its easier to use on a keyboard. Kega Fusion emulator have this problem with analog sticks sucking, which was resolved in version 3.6 (along with a more convenient Menacer mode and the ability to use the Justifier). Also, Saitek gamepads are beasts in fighting games, but the inconvenient design of the analog sticks hinder you in FPSing.

Genesis 6-button D-pad was best in those type of games. SNES and Playstation d-pads aren't quite as good, top-positioned analog sticks are OK, and the joystick I found awkward after spoiling myself on a round D-Pad.

Sounds good to me. I'll play Dan.
