There is a reason for everything in a game. But is there a reason for everything in a post?

In The Legend of Zelda there are several nonessential items:

Magical Key
Red Potion
Red Potion
Red Candle
Wand
Magic Book
Boomerang
Magic Boomerang
Bait
Blue Ring
Red Ring
Magical Shield
White Sword
The Clock
The Letter

The reason that they are included in the game is to make it more interesting and increase your power as you move forward.

None of these items has a specific reason as far as plot development or game progression, though they sure as fuck help.

Bait is essential, GP. You need it to beat Level 7

Gah, that thing drove me crazy. I still remember when all my friends said that Mew was hiding under it or something....

Tell me, then, what is the purpose of Edward sucking so much in Final Fantasy IV?

Or the fact that, in Metal Gear Solid 2, Olga is the only person with hairy armpits?

Or that dude in Zelda II who says "I Am Error"?

Why, in Final Fantasy VI, does Setzer have such craptastic beginning stats?

Actually, Error is his real name. You have to give him something later in the game to get to another area.

Once you get to a certain point, he gives you the hint on how to find Palace 3 (head South of King's Tomb). Someone tell you to talk to "Error in Ruto".

You never have to talk to him nor give him anything.

There's no reason for there to be an emtpy triforce space in your inventory screen in Ocarina of Time, because you can never acquire the triforce.

There's always a reason for everything in a game, but that reason isn't always known to the general public, helpful in ensuring you advance in the game, pertinent to the gameplay in any way, or even intentional.

For example, there's a reason that Minus World exists in SMB1, but it wasn't intentionally placed there.

And there's a reason that you find pieces of cheese in Perfect Dark on the N64, but they don't actually do anything.

I can't wait to see what sentence you manage to fit "They're" into.

or how in the genesis version of aladdin, aladdin has a 'pushing' animation when you push against a wall, but he actually never has to push anything in the game.

My bad on that one.

My point wasn't to try and prove that these items are worthless or stupid. I was trying to suggest that not everything needs to be put in a game for a reason pertinent to achieving the goal of beating the game. Sometimes things are added for shits and giggles or ambiance.

Yea good call, Setzer is so garbage when you first get him, which really is a shame as he is such a badass character. As a result of this he tends to sit to the side quite often....

Which makes me feel like an asshole simply using him for his airship. Kinda like those people that befriend rich kids only for their cool things.

GPF, replace bait with magic sword and your list works...

You do need the bait to get past the grumbling guys and progress

And hell the only reason at all you need the wooden sword in Zelda is to hit ganon 15 times so you can arrow his ass... Other than that you can get all the way to him without ever getting it...

As for everything in a game having a use? Yeah, play ShadowGate... Most of the items you find have the purpose of either 'Die for using them' or 'Eye candy for your inventory'

I have a sig because I was told to. Now leave me be about it.

Nah, this isn't true either. True, some items will kill you or whatnot, but most every other item has some kind of use. A worthless use, but a use nonetheless...
