New Line is dropping Peter Jackson as a director for The Hobbit because he's got a lawsuit about f'd up accounting practices on the LOTR profits. One of my favorite comic artists is dong 51 different takes on different directors' takes:

I attempted to read The Hobbit - I don't see it being very movie compatible... not nearly as action-oriented as LOTR Confused He probably wouldn't want to put his name on that film anyway!

Don't get me wrong, fans of LOTR will definitely go see it, money will be made, but it definitely won't win an oscar, nor will it even compare to the trilogy!

ADVICE: Jackson should have kept his hole shut until AFTER he signed a contract for The Hobbit...

*** Now I know my post is completely contradictory - he shouldn't make it - if he was to make it - but basically I am saying that if he's just in it for the money, he should have kept his mouth shut about being underpaid, BUT if he actually cares about what his name is put on, he definitely should steer clear of this concept!

Alright. Here's the way The Hobbit thing is playing out. You remember that last week TheFeed reported that Peter Jackson wouldn't be directing the film because of a pending lawsuit between his company, Wingnut Films, and New Line. Well, things have gotten a little more complex since then, but this might turn out to be good news.

Saul Zaentz, one of Hollywood's legendary producers, at one time, owned the rights to The Hobbit, and, if New Line doesn't get a production in gear sometime in the next year, the rights will revert to Zaentz once again.

And what Zaentz seems to think is that the idea of that happening is pretty likely. So, that means that Peter Jackson will be free and clear of New Line, and will be able to direct The Hobbit, which can only be good news for LOTR fans everywhere.

Personally, I love the Rankin/Bass version of The Hobbit. Perhaps Jackson will consider making the whole thing a musical. Now that would be something special.

In addition, there are rumors about that Sam Raimi has been offered the job of directing the New Line version of the film, which could make for a potentially sticky situation between him and Jackson. Now that's a fight I'd pay to see.
