I saw the new Star Trek back in May(awesome movie) and got the DVD of it too. I watched it with the commentary and they did a great job with it.

SPOILERS(Kind of but not really...Watch/listen the commentary:)
.
.
If you listed to the commentary all the way through:

.
.
.
If you are that impatient, here it is:

They wanted to do a scene(after credits) with the Botany Bay and decided against it (Good). Doing so would "tie our hands " And I respect that; don't fuck with Space Seed unless you have too.

If they do remake an episode for the next movie Balance of Terror better be the one:

"I regret that we meet in this way. You and I are of a kind. In a different reality, I could have called you friend."

Interpret that as you wish. I really think Balance of Terror would make for a great Trek movie.

"Anybody who ever built an empire, or changed the world, sat where you are now. And it’s because they sat there that they were able to do it."

"Fighting in a basement offers a lot of difficulties, number one being, you're fighting in a basement."

There are rumors floating around that Khan will be in the sequel. I think it may be a bit too early for Khan however it would be interesting to see how they will work him into the new movie.

Yeah, but if he was, it wouldn't be a remake of ST2:WoK, it would be a remake of the original epidsode "Space Seed.". Which means to modernfy it, it becomes Under Siege on The Enterprise. Which they already did in ST:First Contact.

I want to see something new.

Every f'n Star Trek movie since Generations has had the same plot:

A> Big Baddie threatens Earth, Another Planet, a Solor System, Universe, etc.
B> Enterprise comes to save the day.
C> Big Ship Battle
D> The Captian has a face to face battle with Baddie at the end.

Generations:
A> Systems and inhabited planets threaten by Soren destorying stars to move the nexus.
B> Enterprise is called in to help.
C> Enterprise has epic battle with the Doras Sister's Bird of Prey.
D> Picard & Kirk duke it out with Soren.

First Contact:
A> Past Earth threatened by borg.
B> Enterprise follow borg into past.
C> (Slightly different) Epic battle ON the enterprise.
D> Picard faces Queen face to face.

Insurrection:
A> The Baku are being forcably removed from their planet.
B> Enterprise is called in by Data freaking out.
C> Epic battle between Enterprise and Sona ships.
D> Picard face to dace battle with head Sona.

Nemesis:
A> Remans threaten peace in the Galaxy.
B> Enterprise lured in by B4 parts.
C> Epic battle between Enterprise and The Scimitar
D> Picard face to face battle with Shinzon

Star Trek (11):
A> Nero threatens Earth and The Federation
B> Enterprise launched to fight threat.
C> Epic battle between Enterprise and the Narada
D> Kirk face to face battle with Nero

Can we please have something new?

The original series movies were better about this. IV had no "Villian", as the Probe was a threat but wasn't trying to destory anything willingly. Same with Star Trek: TMP.

II + III mostly followed the Villian format. V did somewhat as well, except the villian became a friend to fight another villian at the end. VI had a villian with epic space battle, but there was no face to face battle. (And, really Chang was only part of the main villian, as it was a conspiricy of numerous people working together.)

So, I just hope that Star Trek 2 (Not to be confused with II), moves away from this same pattern and finds a new way to tell a story.

Thank you Knyte, I had never really thought it about that way. The reason I was thinking this and I'm glad they decided against it. Having a scene with the Botnay Bay after the credits for the 2009 film would really have made the story line for Space Seed. Look above...I said not to fuck with Space Seed unless they had to and that should be a last resort. If you watch the commentary they say if they are eventually let go from the series they want to have the beagle rematerialize. Smile

I want the series of films to move forward, however the geek in me really wants to see Chris Pine fight a Gorn.

In the commentary they said they made the green skinned alien girl he is making out with to not look realistic on purpose.

I really think they have a great cast picked out for the main Enterprise crew. I had never heard of Anton Yelchin before this movie and I loved him as Chekov. Being a fan of Heroes I had to try hard to to separate Zachary Quinto as Sylar and Spock. It didn't take long for me to just see Spock. In the commentary they mention Leonard Nimoy was saying to the director/producers how good Quinto was at the role. But I think Karl Urban really channeled/mirrored his role the most. I thought Dr. McCoy was the closest thing to the original in the movie, besides Nimoy of course.

Also in the commentary they mention many times how much they love Star Wars and point out how some scenes are almost copied from Star Wars. They even got Ben Burtt(Star Wars sound designer) to work on the movie and he brought his Star Trek fan certificate from his childhood with him.

Sorry for geeking out, back on topic...the sequel:

Overall whatever they do in the sequel I'm sure they will do it well. We do need a Gorn fight, but other than that they can do whatever. They should go against the pattern that Knyte mentioned. Maybe an enemy that will be in multiple movies or an enemy that eventually signs a treaty or eventually does side with The Federation.

At this point I'm all for messing around with the timeline. They said in the commentary for the new movie they knew said since they were messing with the timeline/continuity that they were going to mess with it in a big way. I'm down for that again if they make it interesting.

All right enough from me, but in all seriousness I'm really looking forward to a new Trek movie with this cast,

"Anybody who ever built an empire, or changed the world, sat where you are now. And it’s because they sat there that they were able to do it."

"Fighting in a basement offers a lot of difficulties, number one being, you're fighting in a basement."

I think if they go too far into the past for material that they will A) be greatly constricted as to what they can create and B) will be a little too predictable.

If they make an episode into a movie, it should be City on the Edge of Forever, except they can't.

The problem with LOST Guy Presents Star Trek is that it's not based on a TV series. They can't tell a story that doesn't involve sex and planets exploding, because there's nothing to draw from. You have one movie of half-assed character development. So the next movie will be sexier and explodier, because that's the direction they can safely go in.

Says the guy who probably still hasn't seen the movie.

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo!

OK, this last week I got really really bored and bought the original 5 Star Trek movies and watched them.

I heard about Khan returning for the sequel but I don't think Wrath of Khan was all that good. I've never seen Space Seed, but I imagine it would help Smile From the numbers it looks as if we're back at that point where the Trek trilogy can restart, so they can carry their momentum if they have a good story and overall great movie this next time.

I don't think they should bring Khan back, but I'm all for the finding a better storyline besides rehashing everything they did movie after movie. The original Star Trek movies were great because they WEREN'T the same storyline. The Voyage Home, The Final Frontier, The Search For Spock, worked because they were stories set in space, not space stories using spaceships and aliens. Their stories could work if it were a western, which made them great.
