Thank you Knyte, I had never really thought it about that way. The reason I was thinking this and I'm glad they decided against it. Having a scene with the Botnay Bay after the credits for the 2009 film would really have made the story line for Space Seed. Look above...I said not to fuck with Space Seed unless they had to and that should be a last resort. If you watch the commentary they say if they are eventually let go from the series they want to have the beagle rematerialize.
I want the series of films to move forward, however the geek in me really wants to see Chris Pine fight a Gorn.
In the commentary they said they made the green skinned alien girl he is making out with to not look realistic on purpose.
I really think they have a great cast picked out for the main Enterprise crew. I had never heard of Anton Yelchin before this movie and I loved him as Chekov. Being a fan of Heroes I had to try hard to to separate Zachary Quinto as Sylar and Spock. It didn't take long for me to just see Spock. In the commentary they mention Leonard Nimoy was saying to the director/producers how good Quinto was at the role. But I think Karl Urban really channeled/mirrored his role the most. I thought Dr. McCoy was the closest thing to the original in the movie, besides Nimoy of course.
Also in the commentary they mention many times how much they love Star Wars and point out how some scenes are almost copied from Star Wars. They even got Ben Burtt(Star Wars sound designer) to work on the movie and he brought his Star Trek fan certificate from his childhood with him.
Sorry for geeking out, back on topic...the sequel:
Overall whatever they do in the sequel I'm sure they will do it well. We do need a Gorn fight, but other than that they can do whatever. They should go against the pattern that Knyte mentioned. Maybe an enemy that will be in multiple movies or an enemy that eventually signs a treaty or eventually does side with The Federation.
At this point I'm all for messing around with the timeline. They said in the commentary for the new movie they knew said since they were messing with the timeline/continuity that they were going to mess with it in a big way. I'm down for that again if they make it interesting.
All right enough from me, but in all seriousness I'm really looking forward to a new Trek movie with this cast,
