a set of sprites is a set of sprites.

wether you recolor an already existing character or draw all new sprites for your character, tehy're still gong to take up the same amount of space roughly, considering all MK characters are about the same amount of pixels and have about the same amount of sprites used for all of their moves. Having every character use the same SFX file in MK1 saved space, having the sprites shrunk down in shaq fu saved space, this did not.

it was laziness. it's was faster and easier to recolor a ninja, have them share moves, and not even have a storyline until being playable in a sequel, than it would be to make an entirely new, interesting character.

The allure of the secret characters was that they were so hard to see, so everyone was curious. it was more like "oh shit man, remember that badass guy that you had to play fifty rounds wihtout losing and hten press start when such and such happened under so and so conditions to fight, and then he would beat your ass real fast? yeah he's playable now!"

are you seriously going to try to tell me that human smoke isn't a pallette swap of scorpion in UMK3 and trilogy? same special moves, same combos, same victory pose, same everything. oh wait.. that's right... smoke is gray! he has those little smokelets coming off of him too!

saying that smoke should be treated as a novelty only agrees wiht my point that nobody should give a shit about khamelion or chameleion or whatever.

chamelion only exists because the n64 is a crappier system than the playstaion. there are less female ninjas than male ninjas, so less special moves that need to be preloaded into the ROM.

and for hte record, ninjas like ermac and rain will never be anyhting more than a novelty. fuck man, ermac was originally jus a glitch in the first MK.

you can't really even have broken characters in that game. well, not in the extent that most fighitng games would have them. other than a freeze/spear/rain orb/ghost cloud/net/someother form of binding projectile infinite, I can't think of anything big.

I won't argue with you about sub zero. he looks goddamn stupid. his old and frosty outfit from deadly alliance was my favorite to be honest.
