The xbox thread is growing off topic with GS talk, so here use this to debate.

GameStop does suck because they hire people who they turn into sales drones.
GameStop does suck because they only distribute enough games to cover preorders to encourage getting more money upfront.
GameStop does suck because they do not offer honest feedback (anymore).
GameStop does suck because they do not offer any decent deals on new games for repeat buyers.
GameStop does suck because they have a floor plan that involves confusion at the counter.
GameStop does suck because if you call them from your house and ask them to hold something for you while you drive to them because it would otherwise not be worth your entire lunch break to travel that distance they say no even if you offer to pay with a credit card over the phone because they could sell it to the person who got there 30 seconds before you and they would rather enjoy watching you waste your time and gas money.

Here is my gamestop story

I ant there to buy mirrors edge only to discover that my edge card is a few dollars short. The guy then procedes to ask "would you like to trade in a game?" I say "maybe". Then I go home and grab guitar hero 2 and the controller. I ride my bike with it in a backpack and through plenty of field (I say field because it was one huge field) then another 1/4 of a mile to walk in and have the guy say "oh sorrry you have to be 18". Me thinking it's mirrors edge he's talking about says "it's rated T" then he says "no, you have to be 18 to sell games. State law" then I say "since when" he replies "about a year ago. It hurts us because we want to be able to buy your games" (although it's more like taking with the money the give you for each game). Then I ride back through the field Hitting the controller once on the ground (accidental) and being pissed for the rest of the day.

Not only did he lie to me and say it was a state law (it's their store policy) but he specifically asked me if I wanted to trade in some games.

On the plus six I did get some exercise

They suck for two reasons for me.

1. They sell "New" games however they can't just keep the damn things in their wrappers, they have to remove them from their cases and put them under the counter. While the game (should) still be "new" it just feels like I'm paying a new game with an old case. While that isn't the worst thing in the world it's kind of annoying. I also dislike trying to remove the price tag only to have it tear off wrong, leaving a splotch of adhesive on the case.

2. I've bought two games from them labled "new" both around the same time. I didn't mind them giving me a "new" game with a bleached and used case for full price however I did mind when the games I bought, both for full price, had files already on them. That kind of underhandedness just pisses me off.

Someone may be able to come up with a good reason why they handle new games like they do, but it still irks me. That being said I just don't go their anymore to avoid headaches.

Gamestop does not suck because they are the only local place to pick up NES games.

Your GameStop sells used NES games? All the GameStops around here only sell used Wii/GCN/DS/PS3/PS2/360/XBX games. I don't think they even carry used GBA games anymore.

Yessir they do. I managed to pick up Tecmo Bowl and Contra after my copies mysteriously dissapeared. I also found R.C. Pro-Am which I recognized from your Top 100 List, and love it.

Gamestop does suck because they sold me a $400 Xbox 360 and I had to buy two games with it for full price, when I found out later that Best Buy was selling Xbox 360s for the same price, but with two games of-my-choice for free.
Gamestop does suck because one of the workers there likes to have twenty minute political discussions with my dad every time we go in there.
Gamestop does suck because it seems like every single time I buy a used game there, it never comes with a manual. Never.
Gamestop does suck because they overcharge on everything.
Gamestop does suck because they don't let you try before you buy anymore.
Gamestop does suck because they only have one cashier and like four other workers in the room constantly pestering you with offers and breathing down your neck when really you only plan on looking through the bargain bin and then leaving if you don't find anything in it.
Gamestop does suck because they have no game soundtracks whatsoever, excluding GTA soundtracks.

I don't get to go to an EBGames/Gamestop that often. I only go to one when I am in the Denver area. Whenever I set foot in one of these stores I get the entire training video sales pitch from an employee there, often times I get it multiple times. I also hate when they try to sell me a game for a system I don't own.

Gamestop sucks because they don't sell games older than PS2.
Gamestop sucks because they bought out FuncoLand which also sucked.
Also I haven't been to gamestop once I noticed they stopped selling PSX games because they suck.

Game retail is one of the hardest markets to be in. It's an economics thing.

As far as game soundtracks, the US market for them is remarkably small, and legit JP releases are pretty pricey. Just go to galbaldia hotel or whatever it's called.

GameStop sucks because if I wanted to fucking preorder something, I'd fucking preorder it.
GameStop sucks because they still sell a 512mb Memory Stick Pro Duo for $40.00.
GameStop sucks because they never seem to have the games I'm looking for, and if they do it's always used and in their shitty generic case.

Ugh, it feels like any time I have a complaint against Gamestop, it's always negated by one fact- they adjust their prices over time. Some times I want to own and play a game, but it may be too short or insubstantial to pay $60 for, and sometimes I just like to go in with $20, and come out with two or three old games that may or may not be good.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

I've never had a problem getting something held.

My gamestop no longer alows you to ask the price of what a used game will be if you want to sell it. You know what there reason was when I asked why. Because other conpanies were using it to get numbers for their offers

OK, Gamestop does suck because they don't sell retro games anymore. I really miss those days when they did.

Oh God, I miss Funcoland. Sad

I must admit, all my local GS experiences have been fine. I have been there so regularly that the clerks more or less know me and they never try to push shit on me. The clerks at my GS are not that "roboticized" and a majority of them have a pretty good knowledge of the industry.

Plus, you can find some great deals on used games, I got Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2 for under 5 bucks (combined).

Game stop sucks because as far as I'm conserned they over price used games. Then again, I have a gamefly account and buy my games through that. I love seeing the look on the faces of the employees though when they ask if I want to pre order something I realy want and I just tell them nah, I can buy it new for 40.00 the day it comes out. Why would I want to give you 60??

So your saying you can buy brand new 360 titles ( or games of that price caliber) for $40 upon the first day of release?

He is paying for a GameFly account. So, don't equate it to just $40. He is paying for those games with a subscription.

I wondered about that!

My brother got me Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers for my birthday, which at the time, had only been out for 6 days. My brother assured me that despite the fact the game wasn't properly wrapped, it was indeed new. And it was. But that was still weird. Makes me wonder if the "used" copy of Zack & Wiki he got me there was also new.

It's really shitty of GS to do that, since sealed copies of some games can go for big money 15-50 years down the road.

It seems like one of the shittier company policies I've seen. When I buy a new game I bought it because I want to own a new game, the wrapper may not seem like much but it's all part of the deal for me.

I don't have any real issue against Gamestop, except that when I was buying Gears of War 2, the cashier spent the entire duration of the transaction telling me why a PS3 is better than Xbox360. Clearly I have a 360, since I'm buying a game for it.

I just thought it was poor salesmanship to bash the system I own when:

A) Your store SELLS the product you're bashing, along with games/accessories for said system.
B) In effect you're insulting me by telling me what a piece of shit my system is.
C) I didn't ask for any such commentary. A grunt was the only response I offered.
D) "This sucks....this good!" is not a very convincing case for me to drop $600 on a new system.
