Don't know how familiar everyone here is with collecting sports cards. But if you read the fine print on a pack of cards, it tells you "NO PURCHASE NECESSARY". Basically, you can send them an envelope. They have drawings, and you may or may not win an insert card.

Here is the part that caught my eye on a pack of 2008 Topps football:

"Potential Canadian winners will be required to first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question. Include on a 3 X 5 card the answer to the following skill-test question: 5 + 4 x 2 - 8 = ?"

What the fuck does this have to do with anything?
When the hell did Canadian + dumbass = ineligible to receive free insert cards from Topps? WTF?

What is funny is that isn't tops, I saw that in some old video game magazines, and old Milk Cap / Pog collecting magazine etc. Not the same math problem, but a math problem nonetheless, very funny.

It probably has something to do with gambling laws in Canada. By asking a mathematical question, winning is no longer determined solely by chance, but skill as well. Therefore it's not technically gambling any more.

Okay. I'm on the BETS OFF watchlist (not really, I don't think) so I'm not aware of the gambling laws in Canada. That would make a lot more sense.

I dunno', seems like a pretty good idea to me. The little mutant wants his pogs? Then he has to answer a damn math question. Wouldn't it be great if more internet users had to pass this test before they were allowed YouTube and forum memberships? Think about it, everyone who got to run his/her mouth on the web would be at least semi-literate!

Way to go, you just disqualified all the Canadians because you gave away the answer.

isnt the answer 10?

5 + 4 x 2 -8 = 10

There are no parenthesis - so dont you simply do it from left to right then?

so 5 plus 4 is 9 times 2 is 18 minus 8 is 10.

Yeah, i did it on a calculator. its 10.

Your welcome, Canada.

Multiplication has higher precedence than addition and subtraction.

Dear god, you realize that M3GA MAN might read this and believe you?

You should not kid about the holy Order of Operations.

Also, in case you were not kidding, remedial math will be held in room 006. Take a left at the Oval Office go down the stairs past the pool and it is the first door on the left.

They may have to do it for authorization reasons, kind of like how websites make you fill in those little codes to register on forums and crap.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Captchas on websites are only there to prove that you're human and not a bot.

I bothered to look for a Wikipedia article on the subject and came up with this: Skill testing question. It's more or less what I already said above.
