oh I agree, I love your state. Spent some of my best years there... that being said its a shame you still don't get hyperbole. Your retort was a tad on the crass side. You may as well have made a fart joke.
Who said hate?! No one said hate I'm just here having a good ol time and you are well... a tad on the zealous side. And THATS what i hate about fanboys. Arguing something beyond the point of logic. I never said I hated the Wii or you, hell i'd love a wii. I merely argued the point that perhaps 3rd party developers didn't want to develope for the Wii because of certain limitations and graphical differences between the hardcore gaming systems like 360 or even the ps3. It doesn't matter if you think thats right or wrong, its an opinion. Everything, besides my snarky little comments are a perfectly valid argument, and are NOT fact and are not stated as fact.
Hmmm.. and unless you have perfect spelling "but have quite and affinity for them as well" you shouldn't be throwing stones at glass houses. You should probably proofread your posts if you are intent on rediculing someone about that sort of thing.
"That being said, this thread as to be about the Wii, and whereas I may have over stepped things with calling you ridiculous, however I would venture to say you decidedly went off the deep end. Also, I am not sure what to thing is, but I think that I come from quite a nice state, thank you."

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo! |

Totally off topic, but I'm pretty sure you shouldn't throw stones from inside glass houses. Throwing stones at glass houses seems pretty effective.
Back on topic, I'm curious if the whole FFVII incident still affects Nintendo's thinking and prevents them from courting 3rd party developers as intently as they could. I know there's been a new president there for a while, but that seems like the type of thing that would be hard to forget. I also don't know one where or another, just throwing it out there.

I agree with Jeebus, throwing from outside is quite effective, inside the house, not so much.

To lend you some support, I agree with much of what you are saying. This forum's membership is very pro-Nintendo (not that there's anything wrong with that), so we tread on dangerous ground when we speak negatively about the Wii.
Of course graphics don't make a game great. Anyone with a brain knows that. However, graphical capabilities can enhance the playability of a game by allowing the programmers to experiment and do new, different things. Games like MGS4, Gears of War, GTA or Oblivion are heavily dependent on mood and immersion. (I realized that by citing the most popular games, I make myself sound like a hopeless fanboy). Many gamers, myself included, derive much of their gaming pleasure from this type of gameplay.
Other gamers are less interested in immersion, and care more about the game mechanics. So the Wii is a great system for those people.
Both sides have their merit. I'm just tired of hearing each side berate the other, refusing to accept any opinion besides its own. Xbox360/PS3 owners need to stop making fun of Nintendo for having "kiddie graphics," while Nintendo fans need to realize that not all fans of GOW or GTA are mindless fratboys who are only entertained by explosions and shiny things.
(For the record.....my favorite games tend to be stealth action games.....MGS, Tenchu, Hitman. Again, these games are based on immersion within the environment, which is accomplished through realistic, and in many cases dark, brooding graphics.)

when people cite GTA as a game that's dependent on graphics, it irritates me. How quickly we forget the PS2 games, which managed to be fun without being HD. Besides, GTA isn't about immersion. It's something you play for an hour or so when you're bored because it's mindless violent fun.

That's true about the graphics.....but I still feared that citing GTA would cause some readers to immediately jump to the conclusion that I'm a dipshit fratboy.
The reason I used it as an example was more due to the size of the game, rather than the graphical detail. These games wouldn't be possible on the Wii because they're so big.
And while I agree that GTA certainly has the "mindless fun" factor, I appreciate it more for the open-endedness of it. You can come up with ways of completing the missions that you can tell the programmers never even thought of. As for immersion, I found the characters of San Andreas and GTA4 to be pretty interesting (particularly in GTA4, where you can choose the path of the storyline on several occasions.) The music of the games also helps to draw you in.

Disc size and the system's "video card" as it were are two separate issues, but disc size is something I've wondered about. We all know that GCN discs had size limitations, to the point where Capcom couldn't fit a Resident Evil game on one disc. What are the size limitations of a Wii Optical Disc vs. the XBox 360 discs?

The storage sizes are the same, 4.7 GB and 8.54 GB (dual-layered) so disc space isn‘t an issue.
Unfortunatly, as was the case with most of Nintendo's systems, a third party actually trying to push the system's power isn't going to happen without Nintendo first showing what it's capable of. Of course they've already done a decent job with Metroid and Mario Galaxy but that doesn't seem to be enough and if this is to be believed, then we won't see any real effort made until late 2009.

What exactly do they mean by "core games"? They've already given us Mario, Zelda, Smash, and Metroid? Are we talking Mario 2, Zelda 2, Metroid 2, and Smash 2?
I believe a Mario Galaxy sequel being in production was hinted at by Miyamoto. A new Metroid would be interesting, because the Prime saga is supposed to be over, so it'll be interesting to see where they go with it.
Also, correction. That article says early 2009, not late 2009. Of course with Miyamoto, early 2009 usually means late 2009, which really means 2010, which means they'll get pushed back to Wii-2 launch titles.

We NEED another 2D metroid. Period. The prime saga is over, so let's cut the crap now and release the official Metroid 5.

If they did, it would be a DS game.

So does that mean that a game like GTA4 would be possible on the Wii? I didn't think iit was, but then I know very little about computer stuff.

While maybe not quite that much scale, there is confirmation of GTA: Chinatown Stories on the Wii and DS.
