Yeah I know I'm referencing a wikipedia article, but oh well...
While "Nintendo has exercised the right to continue selling the Classic Controller pending a verdict at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit," I found that most of my local gamestores have pretty much stopped selling the classic controller. They have some left overs, but it seems like they will not be getting any new shipments.
I think most VC users have at least 1 or 2 classic controllers anyway, but still, it would be nice if Nintendo settles something with Anascape out of court, like Sony and Microsoft did. Ah well, at least the gamecube controller works fine.

Yeah, looks like Nintendo lost a lawsuit against some other company that claims the classic controller violated their patent. So here comes some cash for them.
Does the classic controller sell well? If it does, they'll probably cut a deal and keep selling it. Otherwise, I think they won't bother. Gamecube controllers work just as well, don't they?

Look, all I know is that the Classic Controller is more or less a SNES controller, so much so that Nintendo released a Classic Controller that looks exactly like the fucking Japanese SNES controller. So I'm calling bullshit on Anascape.

Sometimes, but not always. Some games seem to have stupid controls on a GCN controller like Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World. They did that on purpose to make people buy Classic Controllers I believe, but customizing the controls should be something they should implement at some point.

Wow.....what a pathetic situation. Really, why would they sue over a controller that's clearly a lot like the SNES controller? Patent infringement my ass. If they really don't like it that much, why not just make a controller that's better and try to make deals with that?

From what I understood, the parts inside (switches and stuff like that) were violating the patent, not the design itself. Then again, I didn't read very closely and those legal documents are brain fucks.

How is it not bullshit? This is another Patent Troll case. Seriously, how come I never hear of these companies, so to speak, until they start suing people for "stealing" their ideas? I think the Immersion Corporation started this trend when it sued Sony and Microsoft for patent infringement. If I were to make my own patent, I would first go to a patent office and then start soliciting the idea to bigger companies.
Besides, how in the hell is it not Nintendo's own design? As Syd said, the damn thing is pretty much an SNES controller with thumbsticks and a few extra buttons.

My theory is that this BS company has the patent on something really stupid like the rubber or plastic or whatever the thumbsticks are made of. There's no way they hold the patent for the external design, but the internals, now maybe. But I still say BS. And yes, this does sound like a Patent Troll. Sounds like they just bought out some company that held some patents and decided to give themselves a name and sue some other companies. Fuck them. Hard.

its the technology behind the vibration on the controllers. thats what they are suing for. they had the patent behind the tech (the spinning weights on the ps2 controllers and whatever they used on the GCN classic controllers)
thats what they are trying to get royalties for.
so it'll be a while before they settle out of court or until they design new tech.

yeah, but it was a different type of tech. it didnt use the same model that the controllers use cause it was an add-on.
