Sometimes there is reason to celebrate like a whore.

Sonic, the blue hedgehog star of Sega's video games, will zip onto DVD in 2007 in a complete series box set from Shout! Factory. The complete series box set will contain all 26 episodes of the ABC series which featured the voice of Jaleel White (Steve Urkel) as Sonic. This is the show best known by fans as "SatAM", by the way: the 1993 Saturday-morning cartoon where Sonic and lady friend Sally led a force of freedom fighters in a decidedly dark-ish version of the story that orginated on the classic Sega Genesis video game cartridge.

Dang, I'm so not hip. I figured it was like a shopping spree for short skirts and coke.

So wait...there's some dark Sonic cartoon starring Steve Urkel? This isn't the one where he's inexplicably obsessed with chili dogs?

Actually, he's voiced by Steve Urkel in that one, too. Smile

And yeah, they ran simultaneously. Ish.

No, this isn't the slapstick Sonic, but the one that used to air on ABC (and that whole line-up was different where I live).

There was the ABC Saturday morning version which was "more serious".

Then there was the UPN version (depending on where you lived) called "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" which had "In the Hall of the Mountain King" for a theme song.

Steve Urkel voiced Sonic in both versions AND the bastard spinoff "Sonic Underground" where he played all three hedgehogs.

And Sonic dug chilidogs in every version.

I read somewhere, that the chili-dog thing was so popular with sonic fans and the sonic-sega team..that they eventually made it into Sonic-Canon.

Really? Cause those cartoons are pretty old, and with all th e dialogue in the Sonic Adventure games and stuff, Sonic never once mentions chili dogs.

I believe chilidogs started getting added to instruction booklets. I have no physical proof of that at the moment though. And we all know the numerous plot errors of manuals. (referencing the Snake's Revenge part of NES Best).

That's sweet. I loved that cartoon, but I'm a bit sadden by the fact that's there are only 26 episodes. I really appreciated the seriousness of that cartoon, as I thought the slapstick one was ridiculously stupid.

There's an interview with one of the writers on it who still hopes for a third season. He shares some things he wanted to do. Sounded very cool.

I can't find the DVD set for this anywhere around here. I can't find "Captain N: The Game Master" anywhere around here either. I hate ordering things, but I'm going to have to.

Now only if they would release Bucky O' Hare and the rest of the Mario cartoons, I'd be happy.

Forget the Zelda cartoon. I couldn't stand it when I was a kid and I still can't stand it. "Well, EXCUUUUUSE me" is not a good catch phrase.

EDIT: I keep forgetting about the Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon being out. Now all we are missing is the Super Mario World cartoon...I think.

Yea, I didn't really get how they made Link out to be some womanizing punk that happened to always save the day. Whoever thought of that personality for Link needs a circular rope structure applied under his face as the floor disappears.

I ordered from DeepDiscount for about $18.

It pisses me off to no end that SMBS DVDs are edited and only include whatever live action segments the retarded assholes who made them felt like putting on there. I want to see each episode in its entirety, in chronological order, and that fucking includes the Link episodes as they had live action Mario & Luigi segments too.

I got the DVDs the day they came out and I forgot how freakin annoying Sonic was. Tails comes off as a 5-6 year old boy. I also remembered how much I liked Sally and Bunny.

So far I've only watched the first 7 eps on Disc 1 (including the pilot).

I bought the set yesterday and got a chance to watch a couple episodes today. Honestly, I still love 'em. I think Sonic's characterization is a lot of fun. And tails is still less annoying there than in the Sonic Adventure games. Razz

Tebor, I agree. Life = 800% better now.

I might get that Sonic DVD set, being that I never saw the show, except for one episode that I sorta caught years ago one time at my aunt's house. I was trying to figure out why Dr. Robotnik had a more evil voice.

This reminds me of how Dr. Wily sounds like the mutant lovechild of Einstein and Hitler in that Super Fighting Robot Megaman cartoon.

Well, at least he wasn't 3 feet tall, as he was in the Captain N cartoon.

I just picked up the DVD set today, and laughed throughout the rest of the day. It's mega cool-icus.
