After 120 hits, he goes into a bubble. If you don't pop him, shortly he escapes and goes into angry mode where he's a lot faster. It takes another 120 hits to kill him I think. I doubt I could ever beat it.
The "Good ending" criterion seems unnecessary. You get this by hitting pause when the boss is in the bubble, which calls your partner. Then pop him. You might need an extra life for it.

So the challenge is basically put the boss in a bubble, put the boss in a bubble again + hit start. Right?

The good ending is extra credit. And yes, ranking will be determined by overall hits, especially if no one succeeds. The first form is really easy to beat once you know his pattern. After a few tries, you'll figure out when to run and when to attack. The angry form, obviously, is a lot harder.

I used to practice this fight when I was bored and playing the game. Not much seems to be retained from those days though :p

Yea it was. Guardian Legend should be up tomorrow. Followed shortly by Castlevania III. There have been a lot of life issues that I have had to deal with as of late so I really appreciate everyones patience.

If you knew the challenges pre-voting I doubt anyone would have voted at all.

Can you share some of them, or are you filing them away for future use?

Maybe we'll also get more recognizable games later on like Mega Man, Tetris, and Life Force

From watching your videos I wish I had thought of that in the first level. Second, you jump to hit everything
In 4-03 I kept the flame and not the snowflake. I thought about it, but decided it was better and easier to run through against the skeletons.
I didn't get near that far. It could be YouTube run through with Sypha.
