Does anybody else feel like they have to read all new posts?

I saw one other person comment on this, and I've thought about it on my own before. Every time I come to the forums, I have to read new posts: not because I'm afraid I'll miss something or because I really care about all the posts, I just feel overwhelmingly compelled to make all the folder icons the same. I realize I can remedy this by logging out and then back in, but for some stupid reason I feel like that's cheating. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?

OCD?

I was the one that said it, and I have OCD. Maybe it's just curiosity.

That's exactly what I thought, but I've never been diagnosed, and I'm certainly not a neat person. Whenever I think something like that, my next thought is that I'm just being paranoid/a hypochondriac (sp?)

Anyway, I guess it could be.

I read most of them. I dont read ALL of them, but I read most of them.

Some I havent read: Cowboy Bebop Bullshit and the circlejerk Watchmen crap.

however, I have a psychological need to attack threads, ideas, television shows, etc. that I dont like because this is the forum where I can be a dick.

I'm pretty sure I have some degree of OCD, but the post colors don't bother me. I usually only check topics I'm interested in unless I'm really bored and need to kill time. You could always use the "mark all as read" function to get around viewing topics you don't want to read.

I don't read all the threads, though I probably should.

If you're gonna join a forum you might as well read the majority of the posts.

The above and OCD. Don't fret, most people have it now a days, in various degrees. You'll pull through, just look at mark summers.

I agree with Blackout you might as well read the posts if you've joined, so you don't have OCD, you're just keeping up with the times. I used to read all new posts until I got lazy. Now I just press "mark all posts read" all the time. I tend to read only the General and Video Games threads regularly while the others will get a quick browse to see if there are any interesting threads.

I used to read all the threads, but now there are so many boring ones that I just skim the first couple posts.

Let me add that I do not read all the "What are you eating / listening / watching / beating off to" etc threads, because that's boring and I don't really care.

I usually read any and all threads I've posted in, in case someone's replied to my post. Don't know if that could be classed as OCD.

(On another note, I had a joke about that, which I shall refrain from posting, for fear of offending anyone with the condition. ^^; )

I go through every new thread I missed, in all forums.

I don't know why.

I try to stay away from anything involving wiki because I have an annoying urge to read each page, and every page that links to / from said page.

I usually read most of them, unless there's an insane amount. Then I just mark all forums read.

I tend to avoid the bullshit topics made just for the hell of making a topic. Everything else I pretty much read, unless I'm really slow at work, then I do read some of the bullshit topics.

OCD is generally broken down into the amount of times that you feel obsessions and give into compulsions as well as how strong those urges are.

Many people who believe in being complete, or thorough with things say that they have OCD, however they just tend to be complete and thorough with things. These aren't necessarily bad qualities.

It is when the obsessions and compulsions interfere with the other things that you do that you need to begin to question your thoughts and actions.

So, are you late to work constantly because you must read each post?
Do you think about reading each post without being able to function normally until you do so?
If you were in the middle of reading the posts and someone were to disrupt your action would you become frantic?

My guess is that you just like the site and a part of you likes continuity in appearance. Try just getting up and walking away half way through one day. See what happens. If you are ok, then it is just a desire, not a mental disorder.

Yeah, it's not like you feel the need to read each thread 27 times in a row and MUST restart your computer between each one. Then I'd say you have OCD.
