So Nintendo Power's latest issue put out a top 20 games list for each of their systems. Being a sucker for lists, I'd figure I post them here and let the catfights ensue. Perhaps light a fire under the asses of the writers to throw together another video game list for the site. Very Happy

- Super Mario 64 or Goldeneye should be #1 for N64, not Ocarina Of Time
- the Oracle games get 2 game Boy slots but the Pokemon's get merged into 1?
- No Super Mario RPG or Star Fox for SNES?!

Happy to see Pilotwings made the SNES list. Don't know how the hell Super Punch Out got on it though. That game is easy as hell.

I agree with almost everything on there, and it feels more like a "these 20 games are all equally awesome" list than anything.

I love how they mentioned Axelay and Blast Corps. Those games was fucking amazing.

Nope. Ocarina is the best game for N64. May not be your favorite, but it's still a freaking masterpiece.

The Oracle games are two different games. The Pokemon games are the same game with slight variations in the monsters.

And yeah, SMRPG should be on the list (probably near the bottom), but StarFox is pretty overrated. It'd probably make a top 25 list, but honestly, I'll settle for Starfox 64 being way up there instead.

I like lists too, and I also like pointing out things that are missing or placed wrongly.

To be honest, I never thought Kid Icarus was that fun. It seemed ever since Pit became a playable character for Brawl everyone started acting like it's some kind of cult classic. It's been at least ten years since I first played all six NES Mega Mans, and I still can't understand how people put MM2 over MM3. Yeah sure it sold the most, and the song on Wily's first two stages is probably the best in the series. But MM3 had the badass Doc Robots, cooler RMs with better music, a slide, and introduced ProtoMan.

As for the Game Boy list, all it lacks is Wario Land II which is awesomeness and in a league of it's own. Moving to the N64 list, there is a shocking lack of Banjo-Kazooie on it and yet Jet Force Gemini and Conker's Bad Fur Day is on it. Although, I like that they mentioned Blast Corps. and WWF No Mercy.

That's all I have I believe, but I'll also add in that I think 3D Zelda is boring as hell, and that Link to the Past was the only Zelda I bothered to beat.

Also, where is Earthbound for SNES? These lists suck!

The list has many #1 and 2 spots for Zelda games, and there is a lack of Super Mario Land 1 on the Game Boy list.

Other than that it rocks.

It’s an alright list but there’s a few odd choices and I haven‘t nerded out on anything today so...

Simon’s Quest shouldn’t be there, neither should Kid Icarus, yeah they’re both good games but there’s way better ones like Kirby’s Adventure and TMNT: The Manhattan Project. Speaking of which what in the Holy Haggar’s name is Fall of the Foot Clan doing in the Gameboy list? That had to be one of the blandest games ever created for the system, made the NES one look like a masterpiece. Shantae should’ve been around 9 or 12 and no love for Super Mario Land is disappointing. The complete lack of a Goemon title for the N64 is pretty weak as well.

Here's what I think, IMHO:

1.WHY is Shantae on the Game Boy list while Dragon Warrior III isn't? Mad

I hate that crap...(Shantae, that is.)
2.Speaking of what isn't on the Game Boy list, where are any of the Final Fantasy games? (Final Fantasy Legend 1-3, Adventure)
3.The first Ninja Gaiden wasn't the best.
4.Pokemon Gold/Silver were better than Red/Blue.
5.Oracle of Seasons is not (repeat: not) better than Oracle of Ages.
6.I'm glad to see Metal Gear Solid on the Game Boy list. Same for Maniac Mansion on the NES. Very Happy

7.Why aren't SimCity, Lemmings, or Mortal Kombat II on the SNES list?
8.Metroid Fusion is infinitely better than Zero Mission.
9.Gunstar Super Heroes? What?
10.New Super Mario Bros. is a bit overrated, IMO.
11. On the NES list, Kid Icarus should be replaced with Ultima: Quest of the Avatar.
12. Killer Instinct was one of the few good fighting games on the Game Boy, and needs to be somewhere on the list (probably in Kid Icarus's place.)

I pretty much agree with everything else.

EDIT:
13. I think Elite Beat Agents is supposed to be a joke. I think. I hope.

Nobody has -ever- made a lop anything list people generally agree with.

Sometimes, people can agree on a top 1. Maybe, just maybe, you can get a small group to agree on a top 3.

But beyond that, there's just gonna be one choice that pisses someone off.

Besides, there's always gonna be personal bias, and this is Nintendo's list. They probably based it on what has or will make them the most money. Personally, I'm surprised some of these games made the list at all, considering the Big N is probably still pissed at some of these companies (Rare).

It can't possibly be a most popular list. Dragon Warrior IV came out after the de facto death of the NES and didn't sell very well. Dragon Warrior III is a much better game anyway. I always hated the chapter system in DW4. You beat a boss! Guess what! Now you have NEW CHARACTERS to level grind with! HOORAY! Rolling Eyes

But because Nintendo apparently couldn't think of 200 original (and actually great) gameboy games, they put the lamest port of one of the most ported games of an era. Lots of sweet games for the gameboy. They could of at least put the contra game on in its place. And also, cleandregs Z, I'm sorry you think that it is better than the NES version, but seriously, the arcade version? Have you ever played it in the arcade? Nothing has ever been better on the gameboy than it has in the arcade, Donkey Kong or otherwise. If anyone knows otherwise I'd like to hear it.
