I heard that Red Steel isn't going to have 1:1 sword control with the wiimote, that it's just going to do predone slash animations. If this is true, it's a damn shame, because that was the only thing that made the game slightly interesting. Beyond that it looks like a sub-par FPS with ugly graphics that are way worse than even current PC games.
So, they have the perfect system for doing actual sword fighting and they're not doing it, instead marginalizing the sword fighting scenes down to a minigame. Of course, Nintendo is too busy making cutesy bullshit in their quest to be unique and wacky, so while WarioWare and the like may be awesome, you know they won't actually do a swordfighting game. They'll let some shitty third party do a horrible game that does it no justice and sells horribly, then they'll go LOL SEE NOBODY WANTS A SWORD GAME. Even twilight princess isn't going to have one to one swordfighting, from what I've heard...what the hell?
So far Nintendo doesn't have one launch title, nor do they have one game in the works that has 1:1 sword fighting control with the wiimote. Are all the commercials and e3 videos that blatantly imply real sword fighting just hyped up bullshit and rumors that will never be used?

Damn, Murdar, you sound pissed!
Red Steel looks cool, but I was looking forward to the swordfighting.

I really want swordfighting I don't give a fuck if I look like the Star Wars kid, that's the goddamn point. They have the ideal system for doing it and they're basically making it into a bastardized, half-assed idea of what they promised, with a new power glove.

I agree with you. I'll look like a retard if it means I'LL be the one stabbing the enemy, not the character I'm playing as!

I seem to remember this game for the NEO-GEO called Crossed Swords. It was a medieval "ahead scroller" (your character's POV was over the shoulder and looked ahead, you became transparent whenever your sprite blocked vision of the opponent). I think it even had a versus mode, but I think it would be a kick-ass fighting game for the Wii until they put out the Star Wars lightsaber battle game.

I'd be curious as to how a real sword-fighting game would play with the Wii-mote.
Would the sword actually swing in any arbitrary direction you swing the Wii-mote, or would there be pre-programmed "paths" for the sword to take?
In other words, if you swing the Wii-mote left, will the character just swing his sword to the left in a pre-determined fashion, or would his sword actually follow the route the Wii-mote took?

That's pretty much what we're discussing, Red Steel was SUPPOSED to have the swing it anywhere (one to one control) style, but now it's doing pre-done bullshit. I saw some kid lazily flicking his wrist at e3 to slash, and it looked thoroughly unenganging and boring. Basically it was the powerglove.

True, ubisoft was like "lolz it's impossible to code its too hard" well wow, aren't you just fucking lazy and in a rush to release your game? Ever heard of a game called DIE BY THE SWORD, which had complete full sword control with the mouse SIX YEARS AGO? And you can't do it with a fucking controller designed to do that, nice man!
In conclusion, yes.

Sorry, just realized this...
I have high hopes for Red Steel. I don't give a damn.. I just saw the new trailer on IGN.. It blew me away^^
You guys are talking about the E3 build of Red Steel. It's really gotten better since.
They seriously improved the game.
And here's a game with some good sword movement... 1:1 too.
Bleach (one of my favorite anime franchises) is heading to Wii.
This game will come to america sometime, depending on who has the licence to distribute Bleach games in america.
This game looks awesome.
Ichigo going at Kenpachi.
Don't know what it is? Whatch the story unfold on Adult Swim, 12:30a Saturday^^

Both of those trailers brought one term to mind: Wapanese.
1. Wapanese:
“Wapanese” are decidedly caucasian individuals who, by means of thoroughly warped postmodern acculturation processes, have come to the decision that it is in their best interest to act as if they were denizens of the nation of Japan. The term “wapanese” can be accurately though of as an analog to wigger. A whitey can be classified as a “Wapanese” if they are in possession of two or more of the following defining traits:
1. Has an unhealthy obsession with shallow, saccharine and intellectually insulting animation shows (also refered to as anime by the nerd elite) originally tailored for young Japanese children
2. Operates under the erroneous belief that every aspect of American culture is vastly inferior to that of Japan’s – even though 99.9% of Wapanese have never had firsthand experience of any sort with their preferred culture (in other words, they’ve never set so much as one foot upon the island(s) of Japan)
3. Halfheartedly studies Japanese language and/or is a part-time practitioner of martial arts
4. Has a sword (samurai swords only, of course) collection
5. Is a Virgin
6. May be afflicted with a terminal case of yellow fever; however, they constantly fail in their quest for Japanese pootytang
7. Extreme cases may traipse around whilst wearing a “costume” that makes them resemble their favorite anime characters (this practice is reffered to as cosplay; cross-dressing and raging homosexuality is not an uncommon component of cosplay.
Interestingly, Wapanese are generally though of as “failures” and rejects within their own culture. Social scientists such as myself speculate that it was their failure to gain acceptance within their own culture than has lead many a white geek to seek out Japan’s culture as a surrogate; however, they’d be shattered to know that the insular and somewhat racist Japanese society would be even less accepting of them than the people of their true and native culture.
Wapanese munch on imported Pocky and wash it down with a bottle of Pocari Sweat.
To me, Red Steel still looks like a retardedly slow-paced, boring, marginal FPS. I don't trust Ubisoft to get shit right anyway.
As for Bleach, I couldn't tell what the hell was going on in the video, nor could I see any correlation between the girl's spastic arm-flailings and anything happening on-screen.
I have a cheap alternative to the nintendo Wii: Just put on Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai DVD and wave your remote around at the screen. It'll be just as fun.

I made a new post because I would like to leave the last one as its own entity. Ahem. Anyway, my idea for the best Wii game ever:
Star Wars Kid Revenge: School Slashings. You play as the enraged Star Wars Kid, and you go on a school killing spree with nothing but a katana. Perfect use of the Wiimote, and they could make it 1:1 movement.

both games look kind of bland now that I saw them in action to be honest. I'll of course rave about the bleach game because I'm a bleach obsessive though.
at elast taht was actual gameplay footage. the red steel one was obviously candy coated. teh guy was acting. things wont work like that in the game.
which raises an interesting question. how will you manage to straife, move, handle weapons and inventory, and still use that remote to aim?

To my knowledge, movement like strafing and walking is handled by the nunchaku in your off-hand. Opening doors is done by gesturing with the nunchaku, which has a motion sensor in it. Other games have used this feature for jumping by moving up, etc. So it's pretty versatile in that sense. It's not motion sensing with the remote's technology, but it has a velocity sensing thing inside that detects an alteration in movement, for simpler things like commands that would normally go on a button. You can probably expect jumping, reloading, opening doors, crouching, etc. to go on the nunchuck thing.
The remote itself is obviously for firing and aiming.
That's all I know so far.

But I do not/am not---
Have a sword of any kind.
Cosplay.
sudy martial arts.
a reject.
a virgin.
white. I'm black.
Yes, I admit it. Anime is cool, and (all) asian girls are cute.
Please try to keep peace with me, OK? I kept peace with you.
And I could say more, but I'm tired right now.

I kid, of course. It's all in good fun.
By 1:1 movement I mean, like, the wiimote movement does exactly what the sword in the game does. You sure that Bleach does that? I can't see what's going on in the video because it's too far away to tell.
