I just got back from taking my mother to the emergency room. She's experiencing symptoms of the stroke she had back in 1996, and is afraid she's going to have another stroke. They ran a CAT scan and EKG stuff while I was there, and there going to run some more tests overnight after they move her to the hospital downtown. We'll know more in the morning.
It's going to be a very long night.

As they shouldn't. This is kind of serious.
Just heard from my mom. They think it's some kind of inflammation in her temporal lobe, which runs the risk of causing blindness? I don't know all the details. The doctors are actually arguing among each other over what her condition is. Some want to send her home today with just some painkillers, others want her to undergo a biopsy to confirm or rule out the inflammation.
You guys are all so sweet for wishing us the best. I really appreciate it.

The Bill Maher fan in me wants to insist that you kick the "Send her home with painkillers" doctor to the curb and undergo the biopsy. Listening to so much Bill Maher has convinced me that all doctors are trying to take the easy way out and just send you home with a drug.

Mom's got a biopsy scheduled at 1pm tomorrow afternoon, they're going to take an inch-long section of vein from her right temple to examine and see if it's inflammed. If it is, then she'll need to be on steroid medication for the next 3 to 6 months to bring down the swelling. Fun times.
I got a large vanilla iced coffee from McDonalds on the way home from seeing her and dumped a bunch a vodka in it. I'm pretty plastered right now. What a great way to get drunk. Maybe I'll be able to sleep tonight now.
