I need to get a new digital camera.

In the past I have stuck with Canon because I like the photos and the devices are easy to use.

I have found a few problems with Canon point and shoot cameras though.

They are a bit slow to recover between pictures, in many cases they are bulkier than other brands and the LCD screens are a bit crappy compared to the competition.

Since I haven't owned any other brand cameras I was hoping to hear if anyone has warnings or words of encouragement about a particular brand or model.

I am going for a point and shoot that is small and can easily be carried around.

About 6 months ago, I bought my wife a Canon Powershot A560, which is a great camera, and has a huge screen. Though, if you use the flash, there is about a 3 second delay before you can take another picture. I got it from newegg as part of a package deal. I got the Camera, Case, Batteries & Charger, and a Canon Color Photo Printer for $230. So, it was a great deal.

I have the Powershot 600 edition. Love it, couldn't be happier. The newer versions have only gotten better.

I am a fan of Nikon. I tend to stick with companies that made film cameras rather than electronics companies that have only made digital camers, although if you are looking for a fast shooting camera, Sony Powershots are pretty damn fast. Are you looking for a point and shoot or an SLR? If SLR, they are all fast and I recommend Nikon or Canon, although I have an Olympus that I use at work, and it is also fantastic.

My dad has a Sony Cybershot and that thing kicks some serious ass. I don't remember the model, though. I know it's 8 mpix.

What Canons have you tried? I've got a Rebel XT and I love it.

I have a Sony, and love it for point and shoot. If you are getting digital SLR I would say Nikon or Olympus, with a preference for Nikon. I have a Nikon FM10 Manual SLR with some extras, and I love it.
