Sometimes Google scares me. Checking the ole Gmail account, the link I "might" be interested in said: "Sam and Max Ride Again". First, how does Google know I'm an avid Sam and Max fan? I'm fairly sure I've never written one email with "Sam and Max" in it, nor do I make monthly searches for it. I remembered the cancelled sequel from a few years ago and bet that the link would only lead me to a defunct site. Such was not the case.

Apparently the new game will be an episodic online exclusive (later available for sale from the website). That bums me out, but at least there will be "a new Sam and Max animated short cartoon every week on the site". Something to rival those "Press Start" cartoons for sure Wink

I liked the Sam and Max cartoon. I think I saw the cartoon before I ever played the game, and when I first played the game I had no voices. Later I played it with the voices and it seemed significantly less funny than when I read it to myself...but I still think the cartoon voices sound right on.

If you haven't checked it out yet, you should read Surfin, I love the comic collection Surfing the Highway.

I own a first edition, of course Wink

I also have nearly all the Sam and Max cartoons (missing a couple). It was a good show, despite that much of the humor needed to be tamed down. Max even says something like, "I never thought we could have so much fun and still be suitable for younger viewers!" in "The Man Who Would Be King" parody episode.

I grew up with the game, so I kinda prefer those voices to the cartoon's voices (of which one was King Koopa). It's another one of those: 'when you were exposed' kind of deals, I guess.

What saddens me is that the original voice actors for the LucasArts game were going to be back for the cancelled sequel. With the new game, they hired different voices... although, Max's original voice apparently went on to play The Russian President on "24" and a psychic on "Lost", so I'm sure he's pretty busy these days with 'live action acting'...

I always thought that Sam on the cartoon was voiced by John Astin. It definitely sounded a lot like him. I was incredibly disappointed when I found out it wasn't.

One of my favorite jokes from the cartoon was when Sam & Max were going through the sewers in a speed boat:

Max: Look! Little baby alligators!
Sam: Well, they're buoyant and log-shaped, Max, but hardly alligators.
Max: I don't feel so good.

Zoiks, apparently I missed out on this entire phenomenon. Watched the trailer though, and it was highly amusing. Very Happy

Wait, why is this in the video games forum? I know they had at least one computer game, but have we even discussed it?

It's in the video game forum, because there's a new game coming. Eventually, I'll be posting about this "sequel", but for the time being why not relive the wonder which was "Sam & Max"?

EDIT: Original LucasArts sequel trailer:

At any rate, Steve Purcell put in that Full Throttle refference of his own accord, I'm not entirely sure but I don't think Lucasarts had anything to do with the comics. Purcell makes other Lucasarts refferences in a series of comics that follow, including Indiana Jones and Star Wars.

Those line of Sam and Max cartoons were done for a LucasArts Magazine called: "The Adventurer". Whether LucasArts had anything to do with content, I doubt it, but Purcell knew that it would be read by people buying LucasArts products.
