So, did you own anything that you thought was cool, but never gained any mainstream attention?

I admit that I own an Amiga 500 and I have so much shit for it. Joysticks, modems, hell, I even have a 40MB hard drive somewhere.

Oh, and I owned a NES clone that looked exactly like the Famicom, except the controller had two turbo buttons and the d-pad was eight-directional, like the Genesis controller. And it was gray.

It was fucking awesome. I tried tracking it down lately, but all I found is this little picture of it.

I had a Neo Geo Pocket Color when I was around 10.

The only 2 games I had for it, SNK vs Capcom and Metal Slug 2nd were awesome. Fuck, I played this more than I played my Game Boy Color.

May I also add that its hybrid D-pad/analog stick was the best ever?

The Pocket Color would be a great system, if it would be released around 1994. Instead, it was dropped on the market two years before the GBA and that pretty much killed it.

I had a Nintendo Gamecube!

I also had a Magnavox Odyssey-2 for about a week. I was at my uncle's house for a cookout and we were playing Nintendo in his basement game room and he opened up the closet to get some more games out and I saw some cool looking box in the closet, which turned out to be the Odyssey-2. I asked him what it was, and he asked me if I wanted it. It was pretty cool, but I managed to break it within a week.

I guess the Game Gear. I don't know how many are out in the wild, but when people talk about all the Sega consoles, the Game Gear gets forgotten.

That might be because of the meaning of the word console itself. Confused

1 A cabinet designed to stand on the floor.
2 A cabinet that controls, instruments, and displays are mounted upon.
3 The keyboard and screen of a computer.
4 A storage tray or container mounted between the seats of an automobile.
5 A video game console, especially as opposed to a handheld.
6 (architecture) An ornamental member jutting out of a wall to carry a superincumbent weight.

I was never really impressed with the game gear, like all handhelds of the time it did not have a backlit screen, making it hard to see what the fuck was going on.

The Game Gear did have a backlit screen. So did the Atari Lynx and TurboExpress. The reason the Gameboy prevailed was marketing power, relationship with retailers and third party game developers, and the battery life (due to the lack of a backlit screen). Aside from the short battery life (especially the TurboExpress), these all had the potential to be solid handhelds. The Atari Lynx was so much better than the Game Boy and was released the same year. But at the time, Atari was a joke and Nintendo ruled the world.

I have a Commodore 64 and an Amiga... something, but they're not really obscure. I mean, sure they are by today's standards but they were popular in their day.

I also have a Phillips CD-i, and I can tell you it's just as garbage as everyone says. It has the best version of Defender of the Crown ever, though, and I will admit that Zelda: Wand of Gamelon really wasn't all that bad, at least if you look it in its own right and not as a Zelda game, and skip all those stupid cutscenes. The CD-i still works for the most part, but it's a little "dyslexic" and sometimes freezes when accessing the CD.

Actually, it only died because the old SNK went out of business Sad

I never really had anything off the wall. Though they weren't really all that rare, none of my friends had a TurboGrafx-16, Sega CD, or 32X.

I own a Cougar Boy, Its the same thing as a Mega Duck, Also mentioned in another thread of mine I used to own Microvision. My uncle owned an Apple Pippin which I used to play whenever I visited, and thats about all the weird systems I owned or played.

It really wasn't that obscure, but I had a virtual boy and about 8 games for it, but I didn't hold on to it.

Yeah I had the Virtual Boy and that Tennis game for it, but I really don't even know what happened to it.

The 7800 was okay, but games were unnecesarily expensive for it and I played my 2600 way more.

I dont think the Sega Master System was obscure, but alot of people I know never even played one. I had that, and a sweet game called Rastan for it, and a shooting game.

Sega Master System was superior to the NES when it came to hardware. There were so many great games for the SMS - Ninja Gaiden (too bad it was only released in Europe, nyah), Alex Kidd...

I had an Atari Jaguar for about a month. I bought it off a friend for 5 dollars, heh.

It got left at another friend's house and his mom threw it in the garbage one day. What a bitch.

I have a Sega 32X. Its not as bad as everyone says it is, but it is still pretty miserable.

I don't think any hates the 32X as a piece of hardware. The problem with it is is that there was little to no support for it because it was just a stopgap measure meant to tide gamers over until Sega could release a new system. Between that and the Sega CD, Sega squandered a LOT of consumer goodwill.

Because it still wasn't very good. If you tilted it at all, you couldn't see it. You had to look at it dead on. But I guess my big LCD tv is like that. Its in my bedroom so if you are on the bed and you face it toward you, you see it fine. But the farther you are from looking at it straight on, the picture gets darker. Actually, the closest thing to a perfect handeld, IMO, wasn't until the GBA SP. The GBA was such an improvement from previous NES handhelds.The the SP, though I didn't like the way it held in my had as much, had a backlight. Also, it wasn't as big and bulky as the previous handhelds with a backlight and color.

I don't have an SP. I'm curious what the battery life of the SP is compared to the standard GBA.
