Soccer and basketball are more or less the only sports that I care about. I'm still weeping over Germany losing against Spain in the Euro finale. Spain was obviously the better team, but still:

My mother-in-law is from Germany. She is also a huge soccer fan. My wife was talking to her on the phone and she was talking about getting ready to watch the game.

I'm a huge hockey and football mark. Love the both of them. For the record, I'm a Devils (NHL) and Colts (NFL) fan. Somehow I have managed to stay part of the forum despite its "headquarters" being based in New England. God, I hate the Patriots.... it's alright though, I imagine Patriots fans hate the Colts (or more accurately, the Giants this year).
I agree with the fact that if you play a sport, you're more likely to relate to it. I've played baseball and football in high school and ice hockey in high school and college (graduated just 3 years ago), so I have an appreciation for all three. I love playing basketball, but can't get into watching it, especially professional b-ball... there is traveling every... single... play.
I have to admit that I love international soccer as well, but I hate the argument that it is the most "pure" sport there is. That's bullshit. Any sport where the players are able to milk the clock when they're ahead by lollygagging to the ball after a stoppage needs something fixed as far as its officiating goes. I don't give a shit how long soccer players have been doing that, it's stupid. I'm also in the camp that thinks soccer players go WAY too far in trying to get fouls. It's infuriating watching players roll around on the ground for 15 seconds like they snapped their ankle only to get up and run another 4 miles. As I said, I really dig soccer, but it needs a few changes, on the international level anyway.
I recently got into boxing too. If I had a "favorite" fighter, it'd probably be Ricky Hatton. I can't really get into MMA though... although I do like going to the bar around the corner at PSU and watching MMA fights. Beer specials FTW.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

I love boxing. I grew up watching boxing. I also used to box when I was younger. Well, actually, I trained for about three years. My mom wouldn't sign the release form for me to compete because she didn't like the idea of me getting punched in the face for fun.
I don't have a favorite boxer. I grew up loving Mike Tyson. But now, I don't like him nearly as much as I used to. I also grew up watching Lennox Lewis. But after he unified the major titles, he got a really big head (I don't mean like Barry Bonds). Something else I don't like abou him is the fact that the only guys he has fought twice are the ones who he didn't beat the first time (McCall, Holyfield, and Rahman). Which means, he got the rematches, but has never given anybody one. It makes me think that part of the reason he retired was because there was pretty much a public outcry for a rematch with Klitschko.
I used to like Floyd Mayweather. I started to watch him before he turned pro. But after watching Mayweather/De La Hoya 24/7 on HBO, I just wanted Oscar to punch his lights out.
I also think Rocky Marciano is the most overrated fighter ever because people put way too much merit in his undefeated record.
I also like MMA. But I don't go out of my way to watch it. I usually just watch the fights on youtube or someplace like that. I have officially announced that Brock Lesnar is my favorite MMA fighter. I also like Frank Mir and Diego Sanchez. I used to be a big Royce Gracie fan.

I don't enjoy sports as much for the aspect of being a fan, rooting for a team and betting and all that jazz. I watch sports to observe the strength, speed, skills, and other human abilities that these athletes are putting out there.

he beat joe louis' ass
anyhow, i have to agree mayweather BITCHED out by retiring. especially after oscar guaranteed a win and his father started training oscar. oh man, i get goosebumps just thinking about it.
i also have to agree w/kubo about the flopping in soccer. they flop WAY WAY too much. i understand they have to sell the flop in order to get cards etc etc, but it can get annoying. and thats why international players in the NBA are so good at flopping (ginobili, vlade divac, steve nash even)
oh and a belated happy canada day

Football is just as bad, not worse but just as bad. Roughing the kicker and passer, are my two major complaints.

Didn't somebody a few years ago (I think on the Giants) get penalized for roughing the passer, even though the QB was about to get sacked? Ridiculous. Quarterbacks play too, stop babying them.

Hmm... sports forum, huh?
I'm with it. I watch (but don't really follow) the NBA, MLB, NFL and maybe some extreme sports here and there. So I'll post here, but not as much.

I'm so bananas I'm showing up to your open casket,
to fill it up with explosive gases,
and close it back,
with a lit match in it,
while I sit back, and just hope it catches.
Blow you to fragments,
laugh,
roll you, and smoke the ashes.

I'm not the uber sports fan that knows every stat, but hating all sports aika, come on
1.MMA
2.American Football
3.Hockey
4.Soccer (Football)
5.Skateboarding/Snowboarding
I think that there are valid arguements against being paid to play a game they way people do. But then you have MMA or boxing where you earn your money, especially MMA.
