Why do people enjoy salads, why do people eat corn all they do is shit it out whole? It's an aquired taste. You either like it or drink girly drinks like Zima, Mike's, etc.

An acquired taste that billions of people have, for some strange reason.

It's good because it makes you act all stupid like and before you know it, you are sitting in a jail cell.

But then again I drink Coors Light, Bud Light, Miller Lite, and am now in love with Bud Light Lime. Not a dark ale type so...yea.

Having never tried battery acid I'm not really the best person to defend alcohol here... but you'll find some you like.
I love rum!
The appeal? Hmmm... it's great?

T-minus 6 days and counting until I am 28.
And I never liked much alcohol until I was about 23.
As far as I can remember though, I didn't like broccoli when I was younger and now I do. Every few years (I think the common number is 7) people's taste changes.
Going back to the original question, I don't think it is fair to group all alcohol together. Why do people drink natty ice (aka shit beer)? To get fucked up.
Why do people drink bottles of wine that cost more than $10? Because they believe they can taste something amazing.
Why does anyone drink vodka straight? Because they are Russian. And sometimes if you get a good brand (start by getting something that doesn't come in a plastic bottle) it will taste so good.
As for me, I am starting to really like tequila lately.
Also, if you want a rush, take a shot of Sambuca.

Unless you hate Black Licorice. Rumple Mintz all the way. It's like swallowing a bunch of liquid Altoids.

I'm 26 and I don't drink, but why "good for him"? I would understand lauding a recovered alcoholic or heavy drinker, but is there something intrinsically virtuous about teetotalism? I don't drink it because it tastes gross and I dislike the culture of people who do drink (or at least the part of it I've seen).
I have, however, been meaning to start drinking red wine (I've received bottles and bottles as souvenirs over the years) for my health, but I keep forgetting to buy a damned corkscrew...

Good for him because it's almost a rarity that a Westerner in their 20s has never had a drink. Peer pressure's a bitch. I'm 19, and even though (or maybe because) I'm legally allowed to drink, I've quit. I had my fun, lots of stories to tell, but now I'm ready to focus on other things, with an undistorted view.

Good for him for being rare? That doesn't really address my question of virtue. That said, I think it's a fine choice, and I myself never drank until 23, and then because it was basically necessary to keep my Japanese job (lol at "Westerner" pressure, whatever).

Not me! I have some of the funniest nights of my life when me and my friends go out. I hop parking meters, get raped, got a special kid some booty, climbed up my friends 3 story apartment. All good times, yet all ended in tragedy...hmmm

Yeah, I pretty much retired from drinking after I realized how many stupid acts it's caused me to perform, and I recently got a DUI which cost me thousands and now I have to go to alcohol classes and do community service.
Alcohol is really only good to me when I have a nice glass when I come home from work sometimes. It's just not worth it to get fucked up anymore. And I technically just became able to legally drink this year. Fuck.

You make it sound like a competition.
Who gives a fuck?
The dude made a choice for himself. That's why "Good for him". Too many people don't make their own choices, they let others dictate them. If the choice happened to be about choosing chunky peanut butter over something more smooth, then "Good for him" on that too as long as it is the one he wants.
