I believe it started to suck when Amanda Bynes was introduced.

Probably around the same time that I sprouted pubes.

Nick was awesome up until around when Invader Zim was canned (2002?) Then it really started to go to shit.

Yes, and they had almost redeemed themselves with that show.

I don't know, I stopped watching it around 1998 or so. I think Angry Beavers was relatively new, and that show was okay. I can't really remember watching anything after, so that's pretty much a surefire sign that everything started to suck.

Oh, how I miss the golden days of Nick and SNICK. Ren & Stimpy, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude (mmm 18-year-old Christine Taylor), Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Pete and Pete, Kablam... the list goes on. They need their own fucking channel for those shows.

Never watched NICK. Up in Canada we got YTV and Teletoon, which have and had a lot of the same shows. 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' was a YTV show by the way Wink

Don't you dare turn this into a thread about Canada.

Laughing nah, just giving you the Canadian alternative. And by the way, it's very easy to tell which cartoons were Canadian produced and which were a product of NICK...the NICK ones were better.

Fucking Rugrats, best cartoon ever.

I'll second that.

I'll add The Secret World of Alex Mack, Doug, Double Dare, All That...

That would be an awesome channel if they showed all those old shows again. They really were a network for kids back then.

As Told by Ginger was a great show. When they cancled it, the last good show Nick had going for it, the network really tanked.

And anyone remember when Nick Jr used to be good? Franklin was a great show. Little Bear was great. Gullah Gullah Island was great.

Fuck Dora the Explorer and Diego.

It went to shit when they ditched all of their good shows and they started showing Spongebob. Uh, Spongebob was on Nick, right?

Eureka's Castle!!!

That show always disturbed me for some reason. I think it was the weird cartoons between the puppet segments.

Once You Can't Do That on Television, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Danger Mouse, and Count Duckula were gone, it was never the same.

I'm still planning on getting both Danger Mouse and Duckula on DVD. None of my friends remember either one of them. I loved both of them. I also like Bananaman which was paired with Danger Mouse.

I did to, but Count Duckula was the shit. You know what a great show is Yo Gabba Gabba. Watching that and pulling a cheap seats commentary on it is funny as hell.

Once the original Snick was disbanded and one of the shows was replaced (I think Ren and Stimpy got replaced initially), that was the beginning of the end for Nickelodeon. After that, we got things like Cat-Dog, and other retarded cartoons. Live action shows became rarer and rarer (so long Hey Dude, Salute your Shorts, Wild and Crazy Kids, etc.).

I think someone mentioned Amanda Bynes earlier, but I really do think her arrival signaled the death rattle for Nickelodeon. All That was funny for a season or two, but went severely downhill after that... ending my love affair with Nickelodeon completely.

It's sad really. I'd kill to sit downstairs in my den on a hot afternoon watching Today's Special or waiting in anticipation at 7:45 on a Saturday night warming up with Rugrats, knowing full well that Clarissa Explains it All will be coming on in 15 minutes.

Damn, now I'm depressed.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

Nickelodeon needs to get back to their roots. Original shows, live action stuff, game shows for kids, GOOD programming...

I'm in with the camp regarding the best of Nick was back when most of us were growing up. That being said, there is a small list of stuff they currently show that I still watch:
* Kappa Mikey (but wearing very thin, despite the voices of Goku and Dean Venture, due to constant repeats)
* Fairly Oddparents
* Tak and the Power of Juju (from the video games, plus the voices of Hal Sparks and Patrick Warburton)
* Avatar (the only show I look ahead for airdates--if they'd just gotten off their asses with the screwed up air dates I'd probably be looking forward to the Season 3 DVD in a few months).

The only things on non-Adult Swim Cartoon Network that come to mind and I like are Chowder and Transformers Animated. Yeah, I'm a heretic on the TFA comment, I know. To me I take it in the same stride as a fan of the Resident Evil games does comparing the movies to them, and enjoy the show as what it is (and better written than TF: Robots in Disguise).

I do want to comment that I like how they have introduced the sister channels of Nicktoons, The N, and Noggin. This gives each demographic a whole days worth of programs rather than just blocks. This would have been great when I was a kid.

Man, Nick was awesome when I was a little kid, they used to show great shows like You Can't Do That On Television, Mr. Wizard, Wild n' Crazy Kids, Double Dare, Today's Special, Eureka's Castle, Salute Your Shorts, all that good shit. Then IMO it started going to crap when Rugrats started coming on, man I hated that show. And I agree, Amanda Bynes is awful. I always thought Roundhouse sucked, too.

WTF Haley Barbour??! Don't you know your state is a fucking 3rd world country?
