So why don't we study light particles and find out what drives them to such speeds.

You see, once the time machine is completed, you can send only back to when it was finished. The reason being is probably because the time machine isnt working and/or it doesn't exist before that time. You can't send particles from the machine into nothing and if they try it then who knows what will happen.

so make one big enough to send a camcorder back. Problem solved. I guess I was thinking of what you were saying as the guy creating a delorean esque like machine.

Good Question.
Well, we do study them. Theres quite a few theories (-_-) on this topic, but generally I don't think theres an absolute agreement to why. But the most basic theory I guess is that the universe started with 4 fundemental forces:
Strong Force, Weak Force, Electromagnetic Force and Gravity.
Electromagnetic force just seems to move at the speed of light.
You see, in physics, we know how things work but but the "why" is something metaphysics or religion answers.
Sorry if I didnt really answer the question, because I have no idea why light moves at those speeds.
Also, did you know that scientists have successfully slowed down light to a halt using a new state of matter called a bose-einstein cloud (which is a large and visible mass which acts as a single particle).

The only thing this time machine is for is sending messages into the future or past (limited to when it was created). It does that by using particles.

In 2000 I took a college class on the idea behind speed an time.
The coolest concept was that if you had two planes mounted with atomic clocks going in opposite directions, one with the rotation of the earth and one against it, they would show different times as they traveled even at the same spot when they met on the other side of the planet.
Freaky shit.
But time travel, while not so much forwards and backwards, but slow down and speed up, does exist every time you move.

Well, everytime we are in motion we are technically slowing down time (Very, very, very small amounts though) so therefore relative to something else we are in the future (by a Very, Very, Very small amount). So, we are all time travellers. We are 4th dimensional beings after all.
What you said about the atomic clocks can be applied to twins (who obviously are born on the same day), where one twin can move away from the other near the speed of light then come back to find that they are now totally different ages. Ala, Twin Paradox...

Man, Primer was a great movie I thought. I heard about it because it won some kind of award so I figured why not buy it? I had to watch it a few times and I still don't know if I got it figured out yet. The ending was so crazy I thought, before I seen that movie I had never thought of the whole having a double.

Its great, especially for its budget. Its what I call an underated film. Looks like it was filmed by college students or something?

Well, I don't know if they were college students, but the two guys who star in it wrote and directed it.
