Disaster!
Of all the different directions you expected Konami to take with Castlevania's Wii debut, we're sure that "3D fighting game" was not one of them. Nonetheless, the above shot is what allegedly appeared in the latest issue of Nintendo Power.
Other rumored details we heard through the grapevine (oh, and we're just about to lose our mind)? Honey, honey:
* Wii remote used for motion attacks, Nunchuk for character movement
* Rumored characters include Simon, Alucard, Shanoa, Maria Renard, and, of course, Dracula
* Holy water, magic spells, dagger, and boomerang subweapons
* Using subweapons requires hearts
* Remixed classic Castlevania tracks
* Destroyable environments
* Enemy monsters jump into the battle
* Placeable traps
* Steals men's souls, and makes them its slaves!
No word yet on whether you'll be able to throw plates of curry at your opponents. Your thoughts?
At least we have Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia for the Nintendo DS to look forward to, still! |
The screens kinda remind me of Soul Calibur a bit...

Wow, what the fuck made them think this was a good idea? The characters look like shit, like something from Kingdom Hearts.

This is why you make new series and not whore out old ones.

I'll play it. And it'll sell because every other company is comprised of dickheads who refuse to put 3D fighters on the Wii.

T his is yet again, another major disappointment to me for the Wii. But at least it'll probably be a kick ass fighter...

I wonder if it's going to take place during a certain CV era or just be a collection of random characters. Hopefully it'll be Option #2, because Soma Cruz rules.
I don't see why people are so fucking upset about this. Every console Castlevania game since Symphony has been mediocre at best... and most have been much, much worse. Given the track record of 3D Castlevania platformers, a Castlevania fighter is a welcome change; at least there's a CHANCE it won't be awful.
"B-b-but they should have made a 2D Castlevania for the Wii!"
Not gonna happen. Konami has no interest in making a 2D Castlevania as a console release. The best you can ever hope for is a 2D Castlevania on XBLA or WiiWare. And if Mega Man 9 succeeds, you just might live to see that.

Sad but true. The general gaming populous has no real interest in 2d games, therefore Konami has no interest in making something that will not sell.
I would like to see them go the SF route and maybe do a HD Castlevania available on XBLA. I'm a sucker for platformers, and appreciate some good detailed sprites, and that would satisfy both of those tastes. Not to mention all CV's have great soundtracks, even the 3d ones.

I believe there was an HD remake of Symphony for XBLA. Maybe it was just a straight port though.

I'm pretty sure everything on XBLA has HD support. It's one of the requirements for developers that make games for it, at least that was my understanding.

I haven't got it yet, but from my understanding its just a port. While it may have HD support, the sprites would still be drawn for a 480 tv, so It would essentially look the same. (actually a little worse because of scanlines smoothing pixels on old tube tv's)

Castlevania fighter.....That's kinda like the Super Smash Bros. concept, except concentrated into one game series instead of several....
Sounds intwesting. I'll take a whiff!
Also, is XBLA a make-fun-of term for XBOX, or does it actually mean something? Either way, it makes me lol.

The fact that it's not a platformer-style Castlevania game for the Wii...

When Mega Man 9 succeeds, maybe Konami will make a WiiWare Castlevania. PSN, XBLA, and WiiWare are your only realistic hope of ever seeing a new platform Castlevania on your home console.

There could still be hope if games like this succeed.
...or just buy a DS. It's a worthy investment if you're an old school/2D fan.

Here is to hoping that they avoid a Choi character with Fleaman.

I want to believe that this game will have GOOD Wiimote controls, unlike Brawl. I really do.
And I really want to play like sixty different versions of Alucard. Genya Arikado, Alucard from Castlevania 3 on the NES, Kid Dracula from that game that no one remembers...
And I hope that Soma Cruz will have his look from Aria of sorrow. Classical western androgyny instead of that shitty manga style.
For comparision:
GOOD Soma Cruz is on top.

there are a ton of those out already, and more coming out every day on stuff like the DS. This looks liek it could be something new and fun.
