I see it, looks like it might be possible to do this with only 1 coin or less after all. Good luck to those of you trying it, I'll stick to shooting for "good enough".

That actually removes any and all credibility I thought you might have, the only thing worse is if you were friends with Not Sure.

My strategy is to run, jump, and avoid coins. At some point the game is going to end, preferably when I beat it. Shh... it's a secret strategy

Thanks I was sure I had you beat, but it was close... that game was messing with my head. I'm glad that round's over.

I fell a good amount of places in the Contra round. My approach was different than it was for other games because the length of it was so open. I learned something important I can use for the SMB round though.
I didn't beat it, but I got pretty close.

I am pretty sure that Jack Black covered this topic.

in fact sometimes,
that's not right-to do.
sometimes you got to make some love,
and fucking give her some smooches too.
sometimes you gotta squeeze
sometimes you gotta say please.
sometimes you gotta say hey,
i'm gonna fuck you... softly,
i'm gonna screw you gently,
i'm gonna hump you... sweetly,
i'm gonna ball you discreetly.
and then you say hey i brought you flowers,
and then you say, wait a mintue sally,
i think i got something in my teeth,
could you get it out for me??
That's fucking teamwork!
what's your favorite posish?...
that's cool with me,
it's not my favorite but i'll do it for you.
what's your favorite dish?
i'm not gonna cook it but i'll order it from zanzibar!
and then i'm going love you completely,
and then i'll fucking fuck you discreetly
and then i'll fucking bone you completly,
but then i'm gonna fuck you hard.

Apparently it's possible to wall jump off the pipe. How one does that I have no idea.
Edit: Also, if one could manage to do that, would that be considered a glitch and consequently not be allowed?

So we're not allowed to use glitches?
Yeah, I saw that wall jump shit, its insane. I think its near impossible to do it real life because you probably need to press buttons very fast and shit.

Wall jump in Mario?
Hey Douche, would you be ok with someone posting a video of this if they are able to do it?
As far as I know there are no such things as "Wall jumps" in SMB.

I just found another technique on my own to avoid it, and it's really easy to do.
I'm not sure if it counts as a glitch, though...

0 coins is possible, but very, VERY hard, and requires no small amount of luck either.
And to help clarify things, I will post the contents of a PM from Douche (I was asking about using a glitch):
"As long as it's not a code then it's all good."

I was thinking he said we could exloit the in game glitches. I was actually thinking there may be a way other than a wall jump but not positive.

If a game has glitches that can be done during a normal run of a game, such as in Blaster Master, where you can pause the screen during a boss fight and then wait a couple seconds and unpause it and it dies. Those are perfectly legal, however if they require you to input a series of button presses for an added effect that would be considered a code.
