the difference is that shenmue isn't the slightest bit entertaining. the controls are awkward, the dialoge comes off as forced, and overall I find it very boring. It's actually more frustrating than anything.

Well luckily entertainment is subjective, so we can both be right. I found the story to be engrossing, and my ability to unravel the mystery at my own pace while exploring the world playing at the arcade, feeding cats and drinking cola to be charmingly novel.
Since you mention the XBOX, you must be talking about starting from part 1, and in English. Without the investment in part 1 I might have liked 2 less, and I've heard clips from the English version and I couldn't stand the voice acting. So I can agree with you there.
Lastly, there's the fact that since I was playing it when it was brand new, there was the wow factor of the huge leap in graphics, etc. By the time it was out for Xbox it was really nothing special in that department. |
I had played the first one on dreamcast when it was new, but I didn't own one that I could sit down and really dig into until shenmue 2 for the x box. playing at your own pace would be fine, if it didn't FORCE you to do the side games and what not. If I want to just get on with the story and progress, please don't make me badger people with lucky hit for twenty minutes to do so.

I also must add that the article that I wrote was written in jest. adding hookers and liquor and public transportation into shenmue would just make it more like grand theft auto.

I don't know how cool it would be now, but another Battletoads game might be cool. The one for the NES was great back in the day, kept me going for hours. SNES sequel was okay in my opinion but lacking compared to the original. A new Chrono Trigger would be awesome.

You couldn't easily adapt that quirky, campy 80s charm into something that'd be viable today.

Pilotwings man, definitely Pilotwings.
I was more wrapped up in the Super Nes version.
The N64 one was pretty sweet, but a little too easy.
It's an obvios pick to be remade for the Wii.

Shenmue needed to have more fighting and less asking where sailors hang out, and Ryo should have had to eat something once in a while.
I always wanted to see a mixture of Shenmues engine GTAs engine and Hitman Bloodmoney's Engine. It could be the ultimate open experience virtually anything but probably be wasted for mindless violence anyway game.

Believe it or not, that's exactly the game I was thinking of when I typed that (the whole lame faux-edgy bullshit of it)

I think Beyond Good and Evil (one of the most underrated games ever) needs a sequel. Like, NAO.
Also, Crackdown for the 360. There were some interesting ideas in that game, and it was fun...now if they could add an actual story, add more gangs, more side missions, and better control of cars, then you have a game that might be the next GTA (although it's looking like Saint's Row 2 is the top contender for that recognition).

Well, I'm probably jumping the gun on this since I haven't played the second one yet, but I beat the first Breath of Fire last night. I can honestly say I'd love to see a third one.

You mean a 6th one...
Breath of Fire - SNES
Breath of Fire II - SNES
Breath of Fire III - PSX
Breath of Fire IV - PSX
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter - PS2
Not a fan of the 5th one.

BoF II is probably my favorite of the series, I'll take a sequel to Okami by the way.
