Get a program called Virtual dub. You can take video and put it into image format (jpeg, BMP, png). "Save image sequence" is what you need (save it into a folder) use image ready "open files in folder" and you'll have a gif (you can edit it by resizeing it, removing images, or croping then "save as optimized"
*Always crop last*
I think you need an image ready/photshop version after 8
