I hated MGS2 because all I did was run down a hallway, shoot a guy with a tranq dart, go to a 15-minute cutscene, save my game/listen to a 15-minute conversation, walk down a hallway, shoot a dart.... repeat for 20 hours till the game's over. Meanwhile, I get to see cool gun battles with my character diving around explosions and bullets, but then I just go to a scene where I shoot a gun till it's out of ammo (which is very quick, and you can only do it in boss fights unless you want every soldier up your ass because of the gunshot sounds) then go back to shooting darts.

The whole point of mgs is to be covert. what did you think when you started? it would be non stop run and gun?

This is as fucking stupid as saying

"Fuck. I just played madden and all i did was throw a football! i didnt get with any underage cheerleaders or do any coke off of hookers asses!"

You know what I meant. I understand being covert, but does it have to be fucking boring? The splinter cell games had stealth gameplay, but with a lot of different choices and actions, instead of "shoot dart or punch." That'd be fine, but when I see cutscenes of my dopey character charging into the open just to have a cool battle I can't be a part of, it makes the game worse for me.

This conversation has actually got me to borrow my buddy's copy of MGS3, and I have to admit I'm having a really fun time with it, because I get to do a lot of cool stuff, instead of watching the game do cool stuff.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

i actually dont mind the HL or the MGS way of story telling. what i do mind though are cut scenes that are triggered every few steps and that last longer than the actual game itself. that bothers me, but it can be tolerable if the story is well written/told

You've just described pretty much every video game that's ever been made.

I agree, watching MGS cut scenes is better than playing other games.
