I just set up MAME on my computer and I was wondering who else used it and if they could recommend any obscure gems to play.
For those who don't know MAME is an emulator which emulates arcade games from the early 70's through today, and has input abilities for not only joysticks and controllers but for full arcade control panels, trackballs, racing wheels, etc.

Tiger Road. I used to play the shit out of that game at Pizza Hut. I've actually been trying for years to track it down.

Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga III is really good as well.
Avoid the second game, Nastar, at all costs.

If you want a good free website pm me and yeah they have tiger road

I'm so bananas I'm showing up to your open casket,
to fill it up with explosive gases,
and close it back,
with a lit match in it,
while I sit back, and just hope it catches.
Blow you to fragments,
laugh,
roll you, and smoke the ashes.

I used to love Crystal Castles as a kid, hence my title as Bently Bear, but It's only so so without a trackball. Also I challenge anyone to the original MvC. I would offer up the same challenge on 2, but it's too broken, and I dont like using sentinol and magneto.

I second Garou. SNK's best fighter ever made. It's often compared to 3rd Strike in graphics type and concept.
Try a Konami shooter called XEXEX. It's basically R-Type and Castlevania (the whip) mixed together. The graphics and music are just crazy too. You wouldn't even believe it's a game from 1991.
Of course, get every TwinBee game... or else.
I fuckin' love the MvC games and I even have the first 3 in MAME (including X-men vs. SF, and Marvel Super Heroes vs. SF, which I think is the most "fun" one.) MvC2 isn't broken, they just nerfed some people's moves, like Hulk's Gamma Wave. Then again, I've only been playing this for a few weeks now, but yeah.

It's fun to play with my friends, but youtube some mvc2 tournaments. the character balance is way off kilter. If you don't know how to use magneto sentinal and cable/storm, then you simply will not win. The previous games all have a better balance.

Desert Assault is fun as hell. Cheesy Data East 90's shooter genre at its best.
Might also go by "Thunder Zone". Get the 4-player version and kick ass with some pals.

The Metal Slug series and Sunset Riders are good games if you love shootin' stuff. Sunset Riders is basically Metal Slug during the Wild West. If you do play, be either player three or four 'cause then you get a shotgun.
Then there's Metamorphic Force, sort of a wannabe Altered Beast. Still fun to play for a while though, that is, if you're for beat-em-ups. (They sometimes call shoot-em-ups shooters, so would they call beat-em-ups beaters?)
Does anyone know how to play MAME online or through a LAN or something? The only way I've seen is Kaillera, and that's since vanished.

Get Mame32++ 117 there, it comes with a functioning kaillera.dll that shows servers.

Metamorphic Force is the X-Men beat-em-up for furries. Only play as player four on sunset riders; Cormano, in addition to having the shotgun, is much cooler than the other three douches.
If your into top down shmups, I would highly recommend Radiant Silvergun. Made by Treasure, the makers of Gunstar Heroes.
For 2-D fighters, just about any of the street fighters, KoF 2003(I think thats the dream match), Last Blade 1-2, or something from the Samurai Showdown series.

Try Martial Masters, Rage of the Dragons, and Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha for some good fighters.
I wish MAME had Taito X2 or Sega NAOMI support.

Both of the Dungeons & Dragons beat-'em-ups are awesome.

But there is another dream match, and its either 2002 or 2003. KoF 98 is good too though. Sometimes I just like to see one character thrash another with the silly nasty super desperation moves.

It's '02.
And I've been kicking around Rohga Armored Warriors. It's a sidescroller, but you're in a mech and on the ground. An interesting experience to say the least.
