I thought it was a decently put together list. I'm a fan of Screw Attack's Top 10's.

I was about to make a topic on this. It actually really got to me in some spots.
1.) Bioshock and Doom 3 most likely wouldn't be what they are if it wasn't for System Shock. I think System Shock should replace Bioshock and Doom 1 should replace Doom 3, and those two should be in the top 3.
2.) Halo should have been lower (9 or 10). I hate to sound like the "I hate popular stuff" hipster, but it wasn't exactly new hat if you played games like Tribes and the like, then it just seemed like those games with better graphics. I still appreciate it for really pushing FPS's into consoles (finishing Goldeneye's work earlier)
3.) I got irked by having the mod of a phenominal single/multi-player series outranking its original source game. They also apparently lumped Counterstrike and CS: Source together, and anyone will tell you that the two are pretty different beyond graphics.
Beyond those, I've seen worst lists I guess. Kinda bummed that they skipped out on sims altogether (Operation Flashpoint, Rainbow Six, and the like). I guess I'm just picky cause I've always been big on shooters.

The biggest load of shit I saw was putting doom 3 on the list but not the original or hell on earth. Wolfenstein may have popularized the genre, but doom mastered it. (well for the 90's anyway) other than that, it was a fairly decent list.
I would also put in Day of Defeat, because that was the most addicting game ever, but I understand it didnt have the same popularity as CS, so it's understandable.

The List (For those who don't want to watch the video)
10) BioShock
9) Doom 3
 Halflife 2
7) Duke Nukem
6) Counter Strike
5) Quake
4) Wolfenstein 3D
3) Call of Duty 4
2) Halo
1) GoldenEye
My feeling... Unreal Tournament is the greatest FPS to date and the fact that it didn't make this list demonstrates just how bad this list is.
Also Doom 3... come on...
Quake? What the fuck? Doom had more impact.
Wolf 3D? Yes it was the first, but once again, Doom was what made 3D gaming.
Then what is up with the console games ripping up the top three?
Bleh...

I agree, dod was addictive as hell, more so then CS. Still, most people are familiar with CS so yah, DoD still is awesome!

Turok and Perfect Dark - also good. |
I'm disappointed they are not on the list but the fact that Goldeneye is #1 on the list makes up for it. Let me tell you though, Turok 2 had some batshit insane maps (lair of the Blinded ones anyone?)

I've noticed their are mixed feelings towards Doom 3, most of them say it blowed and i think i know why. I haven't played it, but i did play Doom 2 and judging by Doom3 game plays i've seen, it's completely different. Doom2 is more of "blow the shit out of a whole lot of shit" while Doom3 is more like "survival horror". Also, that whole "no ducktape on Mars" thing kind of pissed some people off.
It reminds me of the time i played HL2:episode 1 where i had the light off and alyx was being a wise ass and mowned like a zombie, i turned the light on and she said "Gotcha" but the joke was on her, because there was a zombie behind her. It was funny and "HOLY SHIT!" at the same time.

Yeah, I feel the fps is best left to mouse and keyboard. Just my preference though. Golden Eye was a hell of a lot of fun however. I think the interest in GE and Halo is that you are right there whooping ass on your friends. Of course there are LAN parites, but that just never interested me, nor did I have any friends that were into that.

I though the list was pretty good. I'm still kind of annoyed that it didn't include the original DOOM games or any Metroid Prime games.
Plus, I think Half-Life 2 should have been up higher on the list. That game is awesome.

The more I look at the list, the more I realize that it's more of a trendy over quality thing that they're doing. I really can't find any other way to explain that they think Halo is better than Half Life.
I want to start my own list that actually gives credit where its due, instead of just praising whatever's easier to get my hands on.

Half-Life 2 was good, but very overrated. It was defiantly worthy of an A rating, but not the "perfect" title that so many applied to it.
You are dead on with calling them out for not having Metroid Prime on this list. One of the best FPS and a truly complete game. So many of the games on this list are just about shooting the target in front of you, not a larger point. For tournament style games like Quake 3 and UT this is fine because it is the point. Games that are supposed to have a plot though... this doesn't cut it.
I am still sick to my stomach about this list not including UT.

This list needs to be a bit more more specific as to what kind of game they're talking about. First Person Shooter is a pretty wide category and the "best" doesn't narrow it down one bit either. Best as in most popular? That's Halo. Best as in most influential? That's Doom and Wolfenstein territory. Best Multiplayer FPS? Counterstrike, Goldeneye, and Halo. Best Single Player? Half-Life, Bioshock; and is Portal even a FPS?
If people are going to be so obsessed with whittling everything down into genres can't we at least do a decent job of it?
Oh, and Doom 3 doesn't belong to be on any list of the best anything.

Except best technological break through. Game sucked, but the real-time lighting and bump mapping were amazing when it came out. If only they would have put that technology to a doom II type game, I would have been incredibly happy. I'm sick of all these games that are fucking more tech demo's than functional or FUN games.

Id spent so much time hyping and polishing Doom 3, that when it did finally come out, most everyone went, "Eh...it's okay," because they were already awed playing FarCry which used many of the same "cutting edge" graphic effects.

GE is amazing and stupid hard(or it was when I was young and expected to go point A to point B and nothin else)
Halo at 2 is stupid. CoD4 deserves it imo it is massively entertaining, but it can get hella frustrating when you aren't winning. That's right, I said hella.
